The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Google Play offer? Please!
I really don't want all that ATT bloatware >:(

I think Motorola/Google are taking care of that, regatdless if sold by carrier or Play Store.

Motorola also succeeded in minimizing the amount of software and apps that wireless carriers will preinstall on the Moto X, these people said. Such software, also called "bloatware," has long drawn the ire of wireless customers.

I'd be head over heels if Google (er moto) tears a page out of Apple's book of tricks and sets the release date for all carriers 2 weeks or so after the event. Just give us the date and stick with it. I cant believe that Apple is the only one's who can get this right after all these years...So tired of Android events and then when it comes time to talk about a release and availability we either get the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th quarter crap or the End of Summer, beginning of Fall, etc nonsense. Just set a date and stick to it! I mean your Google, like the biggest search engine in the world...Use you muscle and start doing things right with your OS and products.

bingo

this was one of the reasons i swapped to the Iphone. I was frustrated with the "hey here is whats new but we can't tell you when it's coming" mentality. Especially on software updates.

I really can't argue with that. My N7 is cool with updates as there isn't a carrier in the way. My phone however, :banghead:. There is something to be siad about vertical integration. Let's hope ElGoog does some synergistic things on the MotoX.;)

I went back to the iphone 5 after some time with the HTC ONE, honestly I just really like the size and feel of the 5. It just works for me because of the eco system I use with having a mac and all, and the shooter is great!

However I really miss the customization of Android and what not. As for releases...I just can't stomach how all these manufacturers handle releases, the wait game is as old as vzw's DROIDDDDDD marketing campaign.

I can't wait to kick my other line into high gear with the moto x or GS4 GPE if the X doesn't tickle my fancy...Either one will do me fine for the next few months until the N5 is announced. I have a feeling I'm going to be going with the X...Something tells me while it may not have earth shattering specs, the shooter will be good, as will the radios inside, along with nice build quality as well as nice timely OS updates. Thursday can't come soon enough!

Really? My wife hates her iPhone 5. Her biggest complaint is the battery life. We were on the road for 8 hours the other day. I bought a car charger for me, in case my phone started dying. The entire drive we listened to music on my phone, not streaming. My battery was around 40% by the time we got home. Her phone, with minimal use was dead. I didn't even use the car charger. I should return it.

Not that this is a competition between Apple and Android ...But my iPhone 5 pretty much out lasts any Android phone that I've ever had. I get roughly 15 hrs with my usual use which is hard core usage...a lot of emails, a ton of texting, and a good deal of talking, and on the weekends I can go from about Fri night to almost Mon morning without any hiccups on a single full charge. Actually my 5 has taken on the roll of both my personal and business line since I got rid of the HTC ONE not that long ago and has handled the task very well.

I'm on at&t and have really good service out here in NY so I don't have the issue of my phone constantly searching for a signal.

If I had to guess I'd say the X is going to have some pretty good battery life, moto has basically been able to crack the code with slim phones and great battery life. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us.

you might want to have that checked out... that sounds like a faulty battery, or shes leaving the BT/wifi radios on all the time.

nano sim for the X! I like this news because if ever need be I can pop my sim from iphone 5 in!

Moto X vs DROID 3 size comparison shown, nano-SIM revealed.

So - I'm new to all these new Sim sizes :p
My Atrix4G still used the original "full sized" SIM.

I know there are SIM cutters and adapters out there... but is it that simple as to just cutting/shaving down my full size SIM into a nano?

So I guess I'll need this SIM cutter?

Why not just ask your carrier to give you a nano sim? I know Verizon gives them out for free.

Spend your money on the adapters instead and you can use any phone.

So I am excited for Thursday, no doubt about it. And I am still on the "X Bandwagon" but I wonder...

Am I the only one that hopes there's still some magic in this phone? Something that didn't get leaked? (If that's possible) Some trick that's still up Moto/Google's sleeve? I mean a barn burner, something BIG, that makes this phone a stand out.

It's like a movie you heard about a year before it comes out and you see a 100 trailers, and you feel like all the best parts HAD to be in ALL the STINKIN trailers you saw leading up to it. Sometimes ...

Sometimes that's what DID happen, and there is no surprise, and it's still a good movie and that's fine ... But ... Sometimes, it's only the tip of the iceberg and you still get your mind blown for 2 hours straight... That is what I am hoping for. I want my mind blown a little. I want some features, functions, something that moves it from solid performer, great phone to "Wow this is fairly innovative, I didn't expect that at all."

Anyone else feel that way?

I love the leaks, and I love an idea of whats going on, but everyone likes a little pleasant surprise once and a while right?

I'm still quite excited. Coming from what I had, the Moto X will be a huge improvement. That's all I'm looking for is a new phone that I can afford. I will not be disappointed.

Leo Laporte's podcast from the 17th. He said there are things that haven't been leaked yet. He was at the press only event and signed an NDA.

This Week in Google 207 | TWiT.TV

Being that it is from the 17th maybe everything hasn't been leaked up to THAT point? Afterwards, who knows?

Moto X talk starts about 11min in.

Does anyone here know when the event tomorrow starts, and if it will be streamed?

My understanding is that it's an all day event. Because of that there is no expected live feed. But I am hoping that's not correct. (I mean it IS an all day event, that much was on the invite) but I am hoping someone streams the good parts.
:D

I could be wrong but I think Verizon started charging for sim cards not too long ago as a standard policy. $10 I've heard.
As of last month there was no charge for the SIM. I went in to get one but ended up buying one from a non-corporate store because the CSR said he could not just give me the SIM. He said it was free but they had to install/activate it there at the store for "inventory reasons". Not really sure if they would have charged me for that part or not but I didn't want them messing with my account (still have unlimited data) so I toddled out without a SIM. Picked one up elsewhere and activated it online by myself. I just don't trust VRZ to not mess the simplest things up :)
