Help charging issue via pc

Had my nexus 4 a while and it's been trouble-free up until last week when I realised my phone wasn't charging when it was plugged into the PC via the USB cable

I've tried different PCs and different cables, including the one it came with but it won't charge unless I turn the phone off. Charging in the mains is five whether the phone is on or off

Anyone have any idea what the issue might be? Only thing I can think of is the android release...

Are you using it whilst it's charging, or just leaving it idle? Does it look like it's charging and your battery doesn't increase or does it just not register at all?

USB ports don't give much power so it might just be that it's not drawing enough power to charge whilst in use (unless it was fine before the 4.3 update?).

yes aware that charging from pc is slower & not as much power but the notification light with the "flash" going through the battery is not showing when it's plugged into any usb port on any pc. it doesn't matter whether im using the phone at the same time, if it's plugged into either the mains or pc, it should be showing this notification irrespective of whether the power is increasing

i have tried leaving it plugged into the pc for a few hours without me using it & the power slowly escapes

it recognises it's plugged in though as the pc picks it up as being a device

all this tells me that the cables im using are ok, the battery is ok (it charges when the phone is switched off & plugged into the pc, and when its in the mains phone on/off) - surely it has to be the software but then i would of expected others to have the same issue

any suggestions?

I have had this too since the 4.3 update, used to charge from my work pc fine with 4.2.2, admittedly very slowly, but nothing any more. All other charge points still work fine so i wonder if there is new bit of code preventing the phone from registering a charge under a certain power level. Sadly the only way i have found around this is to take a wall charger to work lol.

I did some quick tests and my phone (with 4.3) charges fine from my desktop PC but indicates no charge from a USB port on an old laptop that I'm fairly sure worked previously. My guess - and it is only a guess - is that 4.3 charges only from ports that identify themselves as charging-enabled.

Almost all modern PCs have the appropriate hardware to show the USB port charging capability but many older PCs do not.

Has the PC settings changed recently? There are settings which may be able to disable the charging e.g windows 7 - How to turn off USB charge? - Super User

the pc at home hasn't changed but always the chance that IT have changed something to prevent people from using them in work

ive just randomly tried it in my pc at home & you know what it's just started to charge :D - anyone else also ok now?
