What's the best way to put the same apps on a new phone as you had on the old phone? Just download the apps again? Or is there a better way to do it. Going from Galaxy S2 4g to Galaxy Note 2. Thanks.

If you're using the same Google account, when you go to the Google Play app on your phone (if your logged in to that account) you can see which apps you have recently downloaded etc. and choose which ones to install from there. You will have to re-download them as its a new phone.

Easiest way is to download ES File Manager from the Play Store. Its FREE and has the best facilities of any system management app out there, imho. All you need to do is go App Manager (located in the self-hiding tab on the left, which you reach by pressing the globe & handset symbol in the top-left-hand corner) and select all the apps currently installed - note they are the user apps only and not system apps - then choose where to safe them (either choose external SD, if you have one, or copy and past the folder called "backups" to your PC).
When your done copy the backups folder to your new device and install ES File Manager first then multi-select all of the apps from backups folder and install them.
ES has many other useful uses and is particularly useful when rooted, but it obviously also works on non-rooted devices.

OK, let's start from the beginning.
1. Open ES and look for the 'globe&device' icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen and press it
2. You'll now have a grey tab with white text starting with 'Favorite' at the top > about halfway down you'll find 'App Manager', press on it
3. It will start loading all your installed apps > long-press on any one of them and then look at the top right-hand corner where you'll find 4 little squares with ticks in them > press on it and all of the apps will have the tick boxes ticked - alternatively, if you only want to select certain ones forgo the last step and simply go through the app selecting the ones you want to backup
4. At the bottom you'll have noticed a row of commands from left to right starting with 'uninstall' > backup > Share > Send and More
5. Press 'backup' and all the apps selected will backup to the folder I previously pointed to.

I have a Note 2 and when I got my Note 8.0 soon as it was done downloading the system update/s it just automatically downloaded and installed everything that I'd had on the Note 2 at the time, onto the 8.0. I don't think you really have to go out of your way to do this as long as you're logging in with the same google account.

When I got my note 2 most of my apps downloaded for me but like it was stated when you log in to your google play store just redownload the apps

Yes, both of you are right for most part, however, the auto-restore of apps from Play Store works 8 times out of 10; when you flash ROMs on a regular basis then it happens occasionally that they don't or only partially. this is the time when backing up apps and using ES comes into its own.
