So.. Over the course of the last three or four weeks, I have noticed an insane drop in my 4G data speeds. I had recently installed a new rom with some fixes that could've been causing it, so I went back to stock. Same slowness.

Today I called metro to find out more about why there was such a drastic dip in my data speeds. Before the drop off, I would get about 3.5 mbps download, and about 2.1 mbps upload, not great, but my house isn't in a great service area to begin with. After the dip my download dropped to 1.1 mbps, and my upload was only at .07 mbps!!

At first I asked the rep if there was perhaps an outage in my area or they were performing maintenance of some kind, he checked and confirmed the network was fine. I asked him next if it could be because they are now offering a $70 plan and maybe I was being throttled because I have the $55 plan. He said that everyone that was on the truly unlimited $55 plan had been grandfathered in, and wouldn't see a rate increase. He checked to see if my account was flagged as an excessive data user, and subsequently throttled, and said that I hadn't. He said that some people had been calling complaining of the same issue over the course of the last couple weeks.

He then mentioned he may be able to refresh my account by reactivating it, as they had had about a sixty percent success rate with the process. I asked him if he would do that, and he did.

He had me dial *228 from my phone while he sent the reactivation command. After receiving some updates from metro, my phone disconnected and rebooted. Once it came back on, he had me test the 4G speed again. Blew me away.

Download had increased to 5.2 mbps, upload went up to 4.1 mbps, with barely one bar of 4G coverage. Worked perfectly, and i got my speed back ;)

Figured I would share my experience, in case anyone else was having some data issues ;)

the latest prl also has part blame in the latest 4g data performance while download speeds may seem pretty good not sure if any1 else noticed upload speeds have dramatically slow down quite a bit in the tampa area market if not all of florida. im thinking of going back to a previous prl build but i think it wont do quite well with the tmobile/metro spectrum considering that perhaps the latest prl build was meant to allow hybrid 4glte connections between tmobile and metropcs. anyways as always i live to teth theories.

The latest PRL is to make sure that whenever they finally decide to combine the spectrum your phone can still get CDMA

For grins n' giggles right after slammin' in with a big bad .30 UL I uploaded a pic to Picasa. I think they are around 1.5 M. It took about 15-20 sec., not obnoxiously long to me.

Admittedly, I haven't actually tried any UL after one of those crack of thunder .03's UL speeds.

About 1/4-1/3 of the time, mine are slightly less than the DL where they should be. The rest of the times it struggles to finish a speedtest UL.

I haven't notice any unstable signal here in Ocala.

There have been variances over the recent weeks though. I'd hit 7.5 a couple times and had a lot of 6+s. It seems to have calmed down a good bit running constant 3-5s. Perfectly usable. ULs are still wonky but a 1.5 M pic UL just fine at .30 Mps UL so I'm not worried about that.

No problem with the signal here. Certainly nothing that makes me NEED GSM.
