Moto Droid Maxx Pre-Release Thread

Thanks for the responses guys. Sounds like there's plenty of room for my pictures and music. And as much as I don't want to be selective, I can probably delete a few GB of music of stuff I just don't listen to when I move it over. I finally deleted Black Label Society... been fighting with that one for a while but I just don't listen to them. Same thing for DragonForce.... I skip their songs every time they come up in the rotation. Makes room for new stuff, like Twelve Foot Ninja.

Anyway, as far as the bloat is concerned... that won't be an issue once the phone is rooted. Titanium Backup does such a good job of permanently removing unwanted programs... :D

So the SIM card issue shouldn't be an issue for me, I assume? I'm not trying to keep unlimited data or anything (lost that when my wife upgraded to her iSheep 5). Just activate it with my number, and be ready to rock and roll?

For those of that have it, do the capacitive button lights shut off when you watch a video. I watch a lot of Netflix on my phone and them staying on bothers me.

I know they stay lit for HBO Go and YouTube, and if you see my earlier posts they don't go off using screen filter or any other bedside app I can find. I have yet to see any situation where the screen is on but the buttons are off.

I have to say that I LOVE having Google Play Music All Access for 6 months is very nice. I signed up with it was $7.99 per month but I canceled because my card expired. I regretted it and hadn't signed back up for the $9.99 price because I use so many other things. But $60 worth of free music is tremendous. I hope that when our free 6 months are up they offer a $7.99 rate again for those that want to continue.

I spent about a half hour at my local Verizon Wireless franchise store today getting some information.

I went away for a while ant then went back and pre-ordered the Droid Maxx with a two-year extended protection plan. ($100 deductible)

When it finally ships it will be Fed-Ex and I will get notified as will the store. It will ship to the store.

When it is finally there I will go in and see how it "feels". If I like it we will finish the transaction. Otherwise I will walk away.

They sold me the first Bionic the day it was announced and I am their first Maxx pre-order.

I'll convert to 2GB from Unlimited at the same time and save about $30/month.

... Thom

I think this is a BAD idea. My $0.02

Care to elaborate? I just ditched by unlimited data, went on the 2GB plan. Saving $400 up front (upgrade) and something like $10-20 / month from my previous arrangement. That's a pretty good chunk of change over 2 years.

Without using any Wifi on my GNex I was at 2-4GB / month. Spend majority of my time during the month either at home or work, on Wifi.

So... what's the big mistake here?

i *think* he meant the assumption that historical usage patterns will be representative of future ones

to clarify those who are confused where the SIM cards are coming from, they are already insides the phones when they ship from motorola... look at the bar codes on your boxes and you will see the SIM ID on the box, that is why we dont have them in stock at the stores yet you have one in you phone.

as for data... share everything will save you money %80 of the time... you have to use more than 8 gigs of data on average in order for it to be more beneficial to keep unlimited data from a month to month comparison. i dropped my unlimited as an employee ( not by force either, we actually still get to keep our unlimited data AND upgrade our lines ) because i saved 20 a month going to a 4 gig plan for me and my fiance.....

We also decided to move to the share everything plan and it has worked out well for us. Before we had the 700 Min family plan and we were paying for data and text plans for two lines. And when we would go on road trips we would activate the hotspot for my phone which was a $30 add on so our son could use the iPad in the car. Now for just about the same price we were paying before we have unlimited talk and text and 4GB of data, which is plenty for us as we both have wi-fi at work and we have access to the hotspot when we need it. The wife is happy because she does not have to wait until after 9 to call her mom or sister now. And what is nice is if we have a month we use more data then usual (like when we travel) we can just up or plan for that month and make it retroactive to the beginning of the period (cheaper then the $30 hotspot add-on for one month). So all in all it has not been a big deal for us and has had some good benifits.

I dropped my unlimited on my Bionic when I got my wife a Razr M and went to a shared 4Gb with unlimited talk and text. Mostly on WiFi at home and haven't exceeded 2Gb per month yet. When we travel it goes up but never over 4Gb. Hotels, ships, restaurants , many places provide WiFi for free.

there IS a light and is NOT used for notification but it is there... upper left corner and probably only for charging / low battery

Bogus! I loved the notification led in my og droid. It's too big on my maxx hd but I expected they were going back to the original small multicolor led notification led. No sense for me to even look at the phone. Thanks for the 411

The point of active notifications is that you don't need a notification light. When you have a notification, the screen flashes (pulses) with that notification. The only down side to this is it only shows the last notification. I'm assuming that in future releases of the software they will allow for multiple notifications.

Notification lights are the beginning, this is the next step...

Mine shows multiple notifications. The most recent is within the circle, but the previous ones are below. Not sure how many will show but I know at least three.

IMO it sucks. I wish they went back to the led of the og droid. Tiny, controllable, every color in the rainbow. Perfection.

The problem was that it apparently used to be easy to assign a SIM to someone else and Verizon is now funneling that through Customer Service We lost the first day in my case because my dealer could not find anyone in customer service who could handle it. We lucked into someone the second day who could and it was corrected within 10 minutes.

BTW I'm the one who told my dealer that you could not use the nano-SIM from the iPhone in the Maxx. This forum was the source of that information.

I'm wondering if people who did not pre-order got nailed by this or if it was reserved just for us pre-ordering dudes.

My suggestions ... color code the nano-SIMs instead of slapping on the identical Verizon logo. Opening it and seeing a purple nano-SIM would have given a lot of people the information that it was different from the white nano-SIM used in the iPhone.

The transaction I expected to take 15 minutes took four trips and 20 elapsed hours.

I am now PISSED OFF BEYOND COMPREHENSION!

On launch day I switched my upgrade to my son's line because he had a tiered data plan and I didn't want to lose my unlimited data. I was told all I had to do to switch phones is switch sim cards. Lie #1.

My Galaxy Nexus uses a standard sim card. The Maxx uses a nano sim card with NFC. I went back to my Verizon store and they didn't have any nano sim's with NFC because the Maxx is the ONLY phone using it right now. The iPhone sim doesn't work in the phone because it doesn't support NFC. After calling the entire city of Verizon stores looking for one, I gave in and called Verizon. I explained the situation in GREAT DETAIL to the CSR. He said no problem, he will ship one out to me and it will be here in two days. Lie #2.

Today the FedEx truck delivered my two new sim cards. BOTH CARDS ARE STANDARD SIM CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is wrong here? Where am I losing communication with Verizon?

I am calling Verizon when I get off of work and DEMANDING that they reprogram my original sim card from my Maxx to work with my number. I'm sick of this game.

I was told that you didn't have to switch sim cards. That all you have to do is call verizon after activating the Maxx on your sons line and have them switch phones on their end. Am I missing something? Let us know what happens.
