We all know the promise made by Motorola when they introduced and marketed this phone. It's the reason why I began being interested in it. The 5-8 hours of usability that my Gnex delivered just doesn't cut it for me. Sure, I can micro manage my device turning on and off GPS, Bluetooth, Data, 4G, yada yada yada, but in reality we are all looking for the Holy Grail of devices. A device that you can turn on and use as much as you want without ever having to worry about your battery when you begin with a 100% charge.

So now comes the REAL WORLD TESTS. How is your battery doing? Please post your results and screen shots of usage without a charge below. :)

Just a friendly reminder that in my experience, it always takes a charge cycle or two to start seeing maximum results with the battery. Also the first few days always seem worse then expected for many simply because we are playing around with our phones more then normal since they are new. :)

That said. So far today at about the 8hr mark I am at 87% with about an hour of screen time. I really have not had much time to mess with settings so my setup with mostly default settings at this point. I do have facebook and Tweetcaster installed. So far so good for me.

I am at 73% after 5h 35m on battery, but have had the screen on for 1h 45m(46%) and have had Google Play Music downloading from WiFi the entire time. It downloaded 8.46GB. My phone has been on auto-brightness the entire time, but have been inside almost all day. With those numbers, I should be getting 14.09 hours of screen-on time. (105/(.46 * .27)/60).

Very pleased so far. Tomorrow I will be able to use it a regular amount without so much downloading and screen time and see how long it actually lasts. Now that my downloading is finished and I'll be working the rest of the day, I feel like I'm not going to be able to discharge it all the way until tomorrow.

I'm happy.

Screen on time: 4h 25m
Total time: 19h 25m
15% still remaining.

100% brightness on screen, everything turned on. Streaming music via BlueTooth. I think I POUNDED it today and to still be at 15% tickles me.

That's easily 4-5 times the duration my GNex would have lasted.

Edit: Not on WiFi. I'm in a strong 4G area.

11 hours, 4 minutes off battery.
Battery at 75%.

Using the phone more than I used my Droid 3, which typically ended an 18 hour day at about 35 to 55 percent.

I'll post a screenshot later or tomorrow. One day is not enough to fully judge.

However, one more data point. Last night I went to a local restaurant where there is a terrible signal. Arrived with the phone at about 70% and left with it after two hours at 53% (sent and received a few texts and received emails and twitter updates in Plume every 15 minutes.) Last week I was at the same restaurant for the same amount of time. The Droid 3 was at 65% when we arrived and the battery died before I left - the second time in the 22 months I owned it that this happened.

another gnex owner here. looking forward to getting the maxx, tired of always being battery conscious by keeping everything off and having tasker profiles setup just to make the phone last through the day.

i think its probably a little early to get REAL results. first few days of phone ownership are almost always more intense than normal. its going to be nice not having a section of my brain always thinking about battery usage. early reviews by prior gnex owners have been nothing short of fantastic.

Phone 100% charged at 5pm yesterday.

After exactly 24 hours unplugged and what I would call very typical usage at work and home (Gmail, Exchange, FB, Instagram, Web, settings things up, voice calls, some Youtube here and there) ...

Pretty happy with that, considering I'd have to stretch to get through a workday on the GNex. Making it through a travel day with a flight and a lot of screen time you'd be totally SOL. Or likewise going out with people for the night and crashing someplace and having to set an alarm for the morning...

Don't have an easy way to post screenies from work but here you go:
Yesterday: (all 4G no WiFi)
Got it to 100% around 4:00PM
I was at 39% with 6:32 on battery; 4:40 screen time. I was a full brightness and hammering the phone. I ran Nav and streamed music with screen on for about and hour.

Today: (all 4G no WiFi)
Tried to make it like a typical day. Right now a 67% after 9:15 with 3:02 screen time.
:smokingsomb:

EDIT:
<--- WOW need to update my profile lol

Let me preface this by saying that my office gets fairly poor reception. We don't have WiFi available so I never turn it on. (I find a lot of screenshots and posts about battery life usually have stats where WiFi is on all the time. Personally, I don't find that very helpful when I'm doing research because I know there are many other people in the same situation as myself of not having WiFi available 24/7.)

Both of these tests were done by taking the phone off of the charger at around 7:00am and putting it back on the charger when i got around 20% battery left.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus with extended battery and absolute lowest brightness setting available:
Screen Cap 1
Screen Cap 2
Screen Cap 3

Droid Maxx at roughly 65% brightness:
Screen Cap 1
Screen Cap 2
Screen Cap 3

As you can see, I got an extra 9-1/4 hours usage out of the Maxx compared to the Gnex. I got an extra 2-1/2 hours of screen on time with the Maxx.

Another thing to note - that I sadly don't have a screen cap for - is that on my GNex it spent roughly 40% of its time without a signal due to the poor radios and antennas. With the Maxx, it only spent 10% of its time with no signal.

As with all batteries and usage, YMMV. I would venture to guess that if I had 24/7 access to WiFi and was able to be connected to it that my battery life would improve greatly, but as it is i think that's a pretty huge difference in battery life - for me, at least - in the GNex and Maxx.

the majority of my 8 hour day is spent in an area with little to no 4G reception. i'm assuming the fact that it spends 8 hours searching for a 4G signal is not good for the battery life. tomorrow i plan on turning off 4G while i'm at work to see if there is an improvement in battery life.

All I can say is I am happy so far. This is with mostly default settings, and I have used netflix on wi-fi for about 30 mins, youtube, facebook, tweetcaster, and bluetooth streaming in the car. Also I did a power cycle of the phone because a co-worker wanted to see the boot animation, so the clock is about 2 hrs off.

Keeping in mind this is the first charge cycle for this phone I am happy. I expect it to get better after a few full cycles.

My battery observation is that the bottom 50% of this phone lasts as long (if not longer) than the top 50%. That has not been my experience with my Gnex and Dinc. Both of them would burn 10-15% quickly, the next 40% is where I would get the most use and longevity out of. Once it hit 35% it drained VERY quickly.

I"m not sure if it's battery stretch or what, but it does very well throughout the charge.
