verizon release date

Chief I have to tell you that I agree with your disappointment at the launch.

50% of the novelty of the motox are the custom designs. We find out it is an ATT exclusive and that Wood is not available. We also find out that they don't have engraving figured out yet (did they even test this?) and that even the test orders are going extremely delayed.

The other 40% comes from a pure google experience and the promise of fast updates yet they still don't have 4.3 with no announced 4.3 date. No google experience available.

Then 10% is with unlocking and new security and you don't get skip unless you buy through moto maker.

I went to the store to try out the voice commands on the maxx at verizon and the voice had not been calibrated and the phone's wouldn't let me because the store was playing music and it was too noisy.

I think I'll wait to see what samsung has to announce for the note 3 and maybe the next nexus before I make my decision.

I agree that I am dissapointed with the launch and that an exclusivity agreement with regards to MotoMaker was a poor decision but I'm sure that just as AT&T agreed to crazy terms in order to get exclusivity with the iPhone for some time, they have done so with Motorola.

There was no promise of fast updates. All Motorola employees in interviews and to the press have stated that though Moto Mobility is owned by Google they have no preferential treatment for updates. There have been rumors that due to the stock nature of the Moto X build, new updates should pass through Moto faster and onto the carriers but what is done with the build then is up to VZW, AT&T, etc and we all know how VZW can slow updates to a crawl.

Just want to clear that up.

Available online on the 29th, available in stores "in coming weeks". Yeah, good ol' Verizon.

I actually gave my local VZW retailer a call yesterday and the guy on the phone said the store had received a large shipment of Moto X's and that they would be available for sale today (yes 8/27 and not 8/29). I confirmed with him and will check it out later today after work.

I didn't want to waste my time coming into work late and getting stopped by some VZW computer system from buying the phone.

Last October I bought a Razzr M and Motorola promised an update before the end of the year. They did what they promised. I also got another update in the spring.
I have been thinking about buying the X because of the bigger screen. I don't care about customization because I use a case. I would prefer to buy it from the Play store rather than Verizon. I thought I read $550.00 for off contract. That didn't seem to bad, as long as I can get one to work on Verizon.

Is this store a VZW owned corporate store or an authorized dealer? Reason I ask is that all the corporate stores near me act like they've never heard of the phone before, but some of the authorized dealers are less than strict with their enforcement of release dates. If your area has them and is willing to sell early, I will start hitting up some stores after work!

Corporate store which is super strange. The guy took his time and apologized that he took so long when he gave me the answer. Said they had just received them.

I actually just gave the store another call and got a different person in sales who said "No all we have right now is the Droid Ultra . I asked if he knew when they would get the Moto X in stock and he said he didn't know at the time.

I might stop by the shop after work and see if I can get a good third opinion but I'm not expecting much. Maybe just cause a little ruckus

FYI ... I called into Verizon today to see if I could get a rep to send me one a couple days early. She could see it in the system but said that "it doesn't launch until 8/29". I asked if I could order it to have it shipped on 8/29 but she said no, that I'd have to call back to order it.

I may try again in a little bit to see if I can get a rep who is willing/able to do it.

Headed to the local VZW store that said the phone would be available for purchase today. Got a manager who told me that the their demo unit had arrived but they could not bring the demo out or sell the phone.

I asked if they would have stock to sell on Thursday and I was told yes so I'll be giving them a call back tomorrow night to see if anything looks to be in stock for Thursday morning.

Wow, I just called my Verizon corporate store and asked if a demo would be available Thursday. I was told they have "no confirmed date". UGH

Yeesh, I didn't even bother to ask about a demo unit being available. I might just give one of the local AT&T shops around a call and see if they have a demo for me to play with.

The plan is to give the local VZW shop a call tonight to *hopefully* confirm that the phone will be available for purchase tomorrow. Not holding my breath though, VZW has a painfully consistent habit of being uninformed about new releases.

This is feeling like the Nexus launch all over again. Oh well, half the fun (and headache) is in the time leading up to the purchase.

I went to an AT&T store and played with an X for about 20 minutes yesterday. I was amazed that there was absolutely no marketing or ads up for the phone at all. Not even a banner or something behind it. It was just thrown in the middle of all the top tier phones and took me a few minutes to even find it. The S4 and S4 Active had their own separate display but neither phone was working, dead battery I think...

Anywho, I looooved the phone. Everything on it was super snappy and fast like reported. Couldn't really get an idea of the camera because they had a cable stretched across the lens that wouldn't really move without setting off the alarm. Feels great in the hand, but really need to get a separate unit without the security crap on the back to see what it really feels like. It's very close in size to the One Mini, just wider. Same width as the full size One, but about half an inch shorter. Great sized phone and amazing that they fit that big screen on there.

That being said, I wanted to switch to T-mobile, but I might end up just staying on my VZW unlimited and getting the developer edition. I really don't want to have to scroll through the bloatware all the time (is that on the DE?) and I don't want to re-up my 2 year contract.

Oh yeah, I tried the quick capture wrist movement a few times. It's very easy to activate the camera and you don't even have to over-emphasize the movement. Love it.

I did the same thing and had a near exact experience. I also couldn't really take a good picture, due to the damn security tether, lol.:p

That said, it did feel great and was a very responsive device. The display was quite nice, as well. I mostly liked the "Ok Google Now" functionality, which I also tried in the VZW store with the Droids (it's funny to see them all respond in unison), but it also speaks to how good the mics are at cancellation. Physical size it outstanding, with such a big display fitting easily into one hand, while the volume/power keys were very solid. It without a doubt passed the "wife/lady" test, too, if that matters, as she without a doubt wants one.

That said, the thing which sucks about store models, is that you just cannot get a grasp on battery life. I can deal with a camera that's anywhere near or better than my GNex, but the battery life is still something I'm skeptical about, with regard to the CDMA model.

Also, AT&T/Moto should have taken the liberty to show ALL the rear colors, at the very least, if they were going to claim/offer exclusivity at launch. Thankfully, I got to see the white textured backing (and I've now ruled it out as a possible option), but I think it would be critical for people to see some of these colors in person, before purchasing (seriously, who comes up with these campaigns/pushes? Why isn't there a floor display for this phone, alone?).
