The very first thing you should always do before anything is make a backup before flashing this and please know that I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE if anything goes wrong or happens to your phone after you use this so please only use this knowing that you do so at your own risk... Ok now that thats out of the way :D

(vv5 backup rom)

Download this ---> (vv5.zip)

Once its downloaded extract the vv5 folder from the .zip and then place it on your SD card here --> clockworkmod/backup/ once you have done this then you will need to put your phone into Recovery Mode (CWM) once you are there go to -backup and restore- then -restore- then -vv5- run the restore and once its completed then select the option to reboot your phone, after the phone has fully booted you should reboot/restart your phone one more time before using it.

(vv5 baseband/firmware)

Down this ---> (Dropbox Link) Mirror ---> (Mediafire)

Once downloaded place on your phones sdcard, put your phone into recovery mode (CWM) select install from sdcard then navigate to where you placed this downoad and select install then reboot and enjoy :D
Oh yeah and dont forget to read my sig ;)

Um, SW Version MS840VV3? That's not right is it?

Is the wrong file uploaded?? I did have a vv3 file in my dropbox but it wasnt the firmware. Did everything go back to stock? Your phone shouldnt have any of the apps you downloaded, if it was a successful restore then it should be a clean slate as far as apps go. Also, I would recommend the #2 ROM located (HERE)

I am however having an issue that is not your problem, but it would be oh so awesome if you could do something for me and everyone else here of course. I run a WinXP virtualbox on Ubuntu 12.04 host. I'm following this guide http://androidforums.com/connect-4g-all-things-root/695800-unbrick-unroot-update-lg-connect.html
with a vv5.cab file. But everytime I connect in dl mode to the VM my virtual system crashes and does a memory dump. I noticed that you uploaded a flashable vv3 baseband, could you possibly do the same for vv5? Thoughts on why my VM is behaving that way would also be appreciated.

okay, i got one question? whats the difference between ms840zva and VV5?! explain it to me?! please ;)

Firstly, from what I've gathered, your battery life and data speeds will improve because you'll have a solid connection to the towers. Secondly, and I may be wrong on this, older baseband versions are no longer supported due to the Metro/T-mobile merger. So in theory, no more waiting for web pages to load, and no more low battery life due to always trying to connect or switch between 4g/3g/1x service

FIRST!! Let me say that I did not have time to test this out because I dont have a vv3 backup anymore and I would have to use the LG tool to go back then test this then come back to vv5 blah blah blah... So Im going to post this and if someone wants to test it out and see if it changes their baseband from Aug 2012 which if I recall correctly is the vv3's baseband please go ahead but as always.... DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE AFTER DOING THIS I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE!! Ok now that out of the way AGAIN :D heres the test (OP now updated with new flashable vv5 baseband/firmware :D)

put me in a boot loop, flashed it over rom #2 v2.0
Damn it!!!!! Ok I'm heading to work now but I took the link down until I can get back to see wth happened and test it myself, I hope you had a backup on your sdcard so you had a quick fix.

Edit:
I was curious why your phone boot looped so I tried flashing the same .zip I had posted and it wouldn't flash, it aborted and I had go select reboot in cwm, once I did that it took a little longer then normal to boot but it did. Did you actually get to flash it?

Yeah, flashed it inside cwm recovery. I tried restoring or intalling every rom i have, with no success, just bootloop madnezz. Its all good though, I ended up using the unbrick/update method from my gf's windowz box. Still can't figure out why my VM crashes when I connect the phone.

Broke my gs3 screen and fired this boy back up. I'm still on rom number 2 1.6 zva. All i gotta do is flash this firmware, then flash rom number 2 2.0 vv5 and I'm all set? This will update my baseband correct?

Edit: wow dropbox is super slow. Under 10 kb/s what?

edit again lol: decided to just upgrade to vv5 and root manually. dropbox needs help.

So is it my understanding that this update doesn't include the latest baseband?

I thought the main reason you would update to VV5 was to get the latest baseband. What would be the advantage of having VV5 with a year old baseband? I thought the update was all about having better connectivity, less battery drain?

What else does VV5 update offer other than that memo apk?

Thanks in advance.

And if your still planning on providing the latest baseband, would you include that into the original zip? Or will it be a separate install?

Someone didn't have access to a computer so they asked for a way to get vv5 without one so I did a backup for them, no one thought about the baseband not updating. my baseband is updated because I used the other method. I currently don't have internet right now and waiting for Comcast this week, I made one .zip for the baseband but it didn't work, I will post the way to get them off your phone using terminal and maybe one of you can make the .zip.

Thank you for the quick reply. Also for all you do and everyone around here making these phones better, out of sheer kindness.

After reading my last post, it might have read that I was unappreciative of the work you've done. But that's far from the truth. I love how this community is so giving of themselves.

That someone who asked without a pc, could be me. Cause I have asked.

I'm still on ZVA and in no rush to update. I have never bricked a phone, or done a recovery, so I'm hesitant in trying something new, especially without a pc to recover with, contact you guys and such.

So those instructions, which I might add seem very clear and concise even for a noob like me, will have to leave it to someone with more resources.

But getting back to VV5,... connectivity, battery life, and overall smoothness are the major points in which to update, right? And for that to happen you need the updated baseband?
