Upgrade

What would you get if you were going to upgrade in the next month or so? I can upgrade now but haven't made up my mind yet.

After a hands on I will be getting the maxx. I am going to hang tight and see if a developer edition comes out before I pull the trigger.

+1. The Maxx for me. There are so many things I don't do to save battery that I'm looking forward to the Maxx. I'll just get the regular and not wait for the dev version - I am upgrade eligible on Monday so I can wait another week.

We know that there will be a dev version of the Moto X on Verizon, but I haven't seen anything about the new Droid series.

Still deciding.
I've been up since May and have been waiting.
Colleague here at work moved from the Bionic to the G4 and really likes it.

I want hands on with the Maxx as well before I decide.

Or, I may wait longer... who knows...

Two points ...

This is a poll thread ... please visit the poll and vote.

I pre-ordered the Droid Maxx and it ships to my Verizon store. When it arrives I will handle it. If I don't like it I walk away. If I do like it we finish the deal.

If the sales person gives them one before mine arrives they will give me a call so I can go in and handle it.

Better meaning what? I don't watch (nor care to watch) video on my phone, so 720p vs, 1080p isn't important to me. What else on the S4 is better?

(Also, I have heard that Samsung radios are mediocre, and I live in and have a vacation home in two places where cell signals are pretty weak.)

from comparisons I've seen:

S4 wins - processor, rear camera, sd slot, screen resolution, removable battery
Maxx wins - battery size, build material
Tie - internal storage, memory, front camera

Probably going to get the Maxx. No way would I get the S4, but if I was going to go with samsung I'd wait for the Note 3.

I went to the Razr Maxx HD a while back which is similar to the Droid Maxx and it is a much more refined phone. With the right smartaction setup, I go a whole work day and only use 15-25% battery. The Droid Maxx is likely a very good phone.

I got the Maxx on release day, and my girlfriend got my Bionic. I am used to the Moto Droids, having bought the original Droid on its release day. I was thinking about the S4, but just didn't get the warm and fuzzies from them. Two of my coworkers have them, and they just don't do it for me. Now two other coworkers are going from Bionics to Maxxes. And the Bionic is quite an upgrade for my girlfriend, who has been using an HTC Droid Eris that I got free when I got the original Droid. I always hated that thing.

It is spectacular. 2 2/3 day battery life with GPS enabled. Better screen. No more divided memory and more of it.

I also am not using Nova Launcher Prime ($4) with it and highly recommend that you check it out.

Good to know, thanks! I am really torn between the Maxx and the Moto X.

I've already looked the Moto X in an AT&T store and it felt great even with the security thing on the back of it. I just looked at the Droids today at Verizon and the software experience is very similar, which is nice. Both devices are very fast, no stuttering or lag at all. However, I feel that the Maxx might be too big for me. I have small hands and I'm not sure if I'd be able to use it with just 1 hand effectively.

People are different. You should handle phones that interest you and pick the one that fits you.

I am of the opinion that when you pick the one up that is best for you you will know it the instant you pick it up. (That was me and the Maxx.)

I bought a 16gb Nexus 4 immediately after the price dropped to $250, and will be taking it over to the pre-paid $30 100 minute plan with T-Mobile on 9/8 as my VZW contract expires.

The Bionic was a release day purchase for me, and after the incredibly rocky start, has shaped into a really solid phone. I just feel like it's time to try an entirely new model for cell phone service. We'll see how it goes!

Well, I ordered the Moto X today from Verizon! I did want the 32GB version, but I am going to test the waters and see if 16GB is enough for me. I also wanted to customize it a little, but didn't want to wait at the same time. I got the Black one and I really don't think I'll mind too much. I care more about how it performs.

I will definitely keep my Bionic and still browse around here.

Undecided, still too early for the Moto phones. I have an upgrade since May.... Nothing out there really thrills me enough to lose my unlimited data plan yet.

So two questions; one if I dont trade in my Bionic, can I still use it on wifi? Two the only way to keep unlimited data on Verizon is buy the new phone at full price?

WiFi - yes. You can also do things like maintain the updates to all the apps you have installed on the Bionic form Play Store through the WiFi connection. The only thing you will not have is voice and data connections.

Unlimited - ? There are some tricks that some people have used by adding a line and doing a transfer. I don't know if it is possible to maintain both unlimited and the number it is currently assigned to on the transferred phone. I converted.

One thing to note, with a WiFi connection you could use Google Voice for calls - that is how I use my old OG DROID.

Don't you need more than google voice? As I understand google voice, if a call is placed and directed to a particular device, it calls that device (so it needs to be activated) to complete the call. You need another app for this.
