Root [Virgin Mobile] [Vmobi][ROM][ALPHA] CyanogenMod Jelly Bean 4.1.2 [08.25.2013]

2 words mac filtering.

Speaking about wireless security in general... And Not to freak anyone out, but Wireless is not safe even with Mac filtering or encryption. Macs can be intercepted and spoofed, and even an encryption can be tricked. Just Google "wireless pineapple".

Best think you can do is use as much security as you can without preventing adequate use. Your data should be protected, and if you keep up with security practices it can stay that way. Look into honeypots...

I can confirm that using a network heavy app while in a weak wifi area reproduces the bug. The issue is that I can't get the fatal log to come up in logcat, or find an error that could've caused it except something relating to disabling IPV6. I'll dig into the change log.
I've also seen the IPV6 error in logcat, as well as a lot of unset socket errors which may or may not be related. I've found a possible solution, will try to find the time to test it out soon.

^^ That thread mentions reverting this commit:

Based on the logcats I've been pulling, it looks like it may be something to do with google sync, but that's just one of many suspicions atm. IPV6 does fail to be released properly, and there are tons of unset socket errors, which may be related. In the majority of the logcats I've pulled during crashes (over 20 of them), Picassa was attempting to sync just before the crash.

On another less important note: I got the Torch app to work last nite! Man that's one bright light! Pull request has been sent to g60madman and Chairshot215 (I hate making pull request, I always derp them).

I've got all syncing options I could find turned off.

I'll use Ti to axe Picassa and see if that changes anything.

Edit: uninstalled picassa and pico tts, still reboots @ 2 curvybars. Gonna install a firewall and block EVERYTHING, then try again. Should confirm that it's not app related but a system issue.

That thread also mentions disabling IPv6 completely fixes the issue they were having, by adding this to the init.rc:
write /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6 1

Ill restore my backups and look into that.

Edit: This actually should circumvent the part of the code that is throwing the error, if that commit is really causing the errror.
Edit edit: Building as we speak, I'll attempt to fork if this works

The reboot occurs because of WiFi reception loss. Not total loss, but down to maybe 40%. It is not related to data at all. It is strictly the router to phone connection.

Somebody suggested a signal boosting tweak, or maybe its a power saver to keep from bleeding the battery by supercharging a weak connection, but it is something the phone is choosing to do in response to a weak signal. I don't think that sounds like ipv6.

And fwiw, despite ipv6 errors, pages load 2x as fast with cm@1.2 no firewall than stock@1.8 with a firewall blocking everything but browser. Not a rendering issue, on both the browser screen hangs until data is in then renders instantly.

Just wondering... If I have a cm backup and a victorious backup and I switch back and forth a lot, will that mess anything up?

I do this fairly regularly and the only thing I see is if i forget to turn LTE back on when switching batch to victorious it on have it. I also have backups from whenever the CM alpha got released so I lose some of my texts, but that's not a big deal to me. It'll drain your battery life a bit though.

Whoa... So I just accidentally clicked on my camera app and the front facing camera turned on for a few seconds. Wtf?

Yah I believe this. I installed Camera ICS from the Play store, and whenever I would touch to focus the flash would come on. After a few times it force closed, and now it just says cant connect to camera when I try to open it.

Wait I spoke too soon! Went in to snap chat (by once again, accidentally clicking) and it repeated! This time I saved the pic! It has a massive blue tint but it took! Not sure if this means anything... Probably not... But I just wanted to share

I finally got the opportunity to flash this. When I first booted I noticed that 3g wouldn't work even after airplane mode toggle. (Not complaining, just reporting) Also, where should I flash GAPPS? can I just get it anywhere? Once Wifi works I will probably use this every day! Thank you for your hard work on making the victory great!

Were you able to get WiFi working? When I wipe everything and flash CM and gapps I have Wifi but my phone keeps rebooting randomly, if I flash CM, gapps, and vaevictus ramdisk phone doesn't reboot but no WiFi..

CM is still Alpha. If you flash it, you're gonna get reboots.

Your reboots were probably because of bad WiFi signal. Read the last 50 posts. No WiFi, no WiFi reboots. Overloading the system with tasks (even light tasks, but a lot of them close together) can also cause a reboot. Those are the two we know of. If you find other triggers, please share so they can get fixed.

Sometimes (especially with the WiFi reboot when you stay in 1-2 bar range) can cause a boot loop.

If you hit one, hold down volume up to interrupt the loop and enter recovery. Power off then back on. If it still loops, wipe dalvik.

Devs release Alphas with the understanding that everyone that flashes it is implicitly agreeing to be an alpha tester. So please keep an eye out for any new bugs you notice and post em here so they can get fixed.

Also, the ramdisk was built before Wi-Fi was fixed. Just flash CM and gapps until Jerry releases a new build that doesn't break WiFi, and turn off WiFi if under 3 bars to keep it from rebooting (put it in the drop down for easy toggle).

Well the veavictus ramdisk was made before wifi was fixed, and an updated one hasnt been made so that explains the wifi. But alot of people are getting the reboots, thats why I switched back to Victorious.
