[Q] Repurposing Home Button to show Notification Menu?

Dear Androidsters,

I'm very much enjoying my Samsung Galaxy Note (running stock Android 4.1.2, rooted), and it's waaay better than all my previous 11 palmtop computers put together. [1]

I have four apps which effectively make my Notification Menu into my app launching mechanism, since I find this to be quicker and more efficient than the default Home Screens paradigm. I have explored using various app-launching Home Screen replacement apps (such as GO Launcher EX, 3D Home, etc., &c., all of which stick to using the Home Screens paradigm), but I much prefer to use the Notification Menu to launch apps.

Android is justly famous for its 'Customise Everything!' abilities, but search as I may, I cannot find a way of customising a single press on the Home Button. The final finesse would be that, in any and every situation (including when apps are running full screen, where the Notification Bar method of accessing the Notification Menu is absent), a single press on the Home Button shows the Notification Menu instead of the Home Screen (or whichever replacement app-launching Home Screens app it currently launches).

So does anybody know of a customising utility app which will allow me to remap a single press on the Home Button to show the Notification Menu?

Unrooted, i dont know of a way man sorry. If youre up for rooting and modding the phone you can certainly do it.
I just had a look and the rom im using allows that View attachment 60734
What you could do without rooting is use a multitask app like Dock4Droid or Smart Taskbar to launch apps instead of the notification panel :thumbup:

You can depending on launcher. For example, using Nova launcher Prime, this can be done in the Gesture and Buttons menu in the settings. I set my home button to open App drawer since I don't use a dock in my interface.

PS. This does not need root.

While on Nova (homescreen and app drawer AFAIK) . It won't do it if you're inside another app. But I don't think you want to do that there since if that's the case you'll have no way of putting apps to background.

Just by using his notification panel setup to navigate to another app would be the same as hitting home to get to the launcher to navigate i think.
He basicly wants the not' panel to replace the launcher. Not something id wana do but as he says, the beauty of android is having a choice

I've also been curious about repurposing the home button. Wouldn't it be possible to have a single button press take you to the notification screen (or wherever) and a long press or double press take you to the home screen?

This notification launcher idea is intriguing to me.

Buy Nova Prime then man. Its an excellent home screen replacement (launcher) and its made by an Android Forums member :beer:

So Nova Prime allows you to reassign the home screen button and this works even when you're in an app? I have the paid version of Holo HD, but the reassigned home button just works if you're already on the home screen, which limits its usefulness.

On Nova the behaviour will be that home takes you back to home and then if you press it itl do the action youve set.
To make home do a custom action while in an app, i think youre gona need root access :thumbup:

Home2Shortcut ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eikatou0.appspot.home2shortcut ) might work for you. Can't remember if notifications was one of the things you can assign or not from when I tried it out.
