14 Days Since Launch . . . Whose Keeping and Whose Returning Your Maxx?

Sticking with.

This phone isn't perfect, but the long battery life, big screen, mostly stock Android (more to the point: unskinned Android), 32 gigs, and smooth performance make this the "Galaxy Nexus II" for me.

Dislikes for me are camera (not horrible, just "meh..."), capacitive buttons, rear-facing speaker (it's loud, but also sound over-driven to where I'm half-expecting it to blow), and they way it holds on to insanely weak WiFi signals when there's a perfectly good 4G signal.

Since August 20th I have tried all of the functions on this phone that I use and many I probably will not use other than playing. (Zap, which works great BTW). It has performed as close to perfect as I would possibly ask. Wireless charging and navigation work very well and the battery life is fantastic. The phone is fast and smooth. I tried LG once and was very disappointed. Samsung feels cheap and Touch Wiz is a PITA. This phone is close to pure Android and a pleasure to use. The Maxx is a keeper for sure.

Glad to hear of all the positive feedback about this phone... especially since I ordered mine today. :) Got the red-striped bumper case too. Verizon said it ships the 5th, so if I'm lucky I'll get it Saturday. If not, Monday is fine. I've waited this long, another few days ain't gonna kill me.

It will be so nice to have an up-to-date phone close to launch date. I got the Droid Eris long after launch, as well as my current Razr Maxx. The last time I got a phone close to launch was the Galaxy Nexus and... well... let's just say it didn't work out well for me.

I'll keep mine. No options for different file capture size on the camera, and no hard port for HDMI out are about the only issues I have with it. But, they can be overcome with other means. It's just a matter of getting used to them. From what I am using in memory so far, it looks like I will still be able to do some light ROMing later on. I am stunned by 6.5+GB of use for the operating system. More potentially recoverable memory right there.

Keeping mine as well. There are little annoyances, like the pre-programmed contacts, typical bloat, etc, but I have yet to find anything better. And I love being able to have a medium to heavy usage day and still have 30-40% battery left when I get home!
I did take the VZW bumper back though. It just made the phone too bulky for my liking.

Oh I will be keeping mine, no doubt. I remember posting back when I got my GNex that I couldn't imagine a better phone. Well, I own a better phone now.

LOL... I found that post.

A couple of nights ago after a drink or two I was thinking about what my next phone will be like. How much will tech evolve by the time my NE2 is up? Honestly, I can only think of two things that could be improved upon. If they can come up with a way to take dSLR quality photos on a phone, that would be worthy of an upgrade. And as always, better battery life. That's it though. I don't want anything bigger than the GNex.

I tried both the Maxx and the HTC One, and settled on the Maxx. On paper, the HTC is the finer piece, but in reality I could tell little difference, so battery life settled it for me. I compared screen brightness in full sunlight, and could tell no difference. Also, I could tell no difference with processor speed, both are quicker than my laptop. So, I just turn up the screen, turn on WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth, and "let 'er burn." What good is a phone that you can't enjoy to the "Maxx?"

I'm on day two. Came from a S4 and an iPhone 5 before that. What can I say, I like the newest tech.

Anyway, I am somewhat pleased with the Maxx. Handset volume is low on most calls and today I experienced a very annoying bluetooth issue. After streaming Pandora to my car's entertainment system, the phone connection dropped and then reengaged and continued to drop every few seconds. Almost like a pulse. I wonder if it was an issue with the moto assist / touchless control. I will experiment more tomorrow.

Another issue I noticed is popping during voice calls. The other party seems to pop with a very electronic sounding voice. Not natural. And voicemails are very difficult to understand due to bad quality. I did not experience any of this on my S4. The S4's voice calls were just ok with a few dropped calls more than usual.

Was hoping this was the one for a while. Anyone think they will update the firmware to fix any of these issues?

5 days with phone, paid off contact 650 to keep my unlimited plan, not sure I will keep as while a nice phone, not that big an improvement over my RAZR maxx when it was working right, unfortunately my RAZR was having some issues that were getting irritating. The battery is really not that much different than my RAZR, camera is actually not as good, the big difference is speed/smoothness which is nice and what my RAZR was like before jelly bean upgrade. So wonder same issue happens going to key lime in 6 months? OK Google now while kind of neat, is something I can easily live without as I use my new nexus 7 tablet except for calls or running errands. The screen is better than RAZR but nexus 7 tablet is much better for video, surfing, reading. Unfortunately if I take it back, then have to make a claim on insurance for replacement RAZR for 100 and 35 restocking fee and hope the replacement works like my old one did.... Unlimited plan I need as I tether so much for my laptop, around 8 to 12 gigs month, both old and new maxx work nicely with foxfi
