Do we have to say "Okay, Google now?"

This has not been addressed anywhere that I can find. But do we have to use "Okay, google now," for the hands-free features? I know the Moto X can be "trained" to understand your voice, why can't you "train" it to use a different phrase... oh maybe somelike "Computer..."

Anyone have ideas on this?

The dev team mentioned wanting a very specific phrase to listen to, that you wouldn't want to inadvertently be saying and activating the voice commands. I do not believe you can reprogram it.

Over on the Droid Maxx forums, some are reporting that they have trained the phone to respond to "OK DROID Maxx" instead. http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-maxx/756318-okay-google-now.html#post6104004

I'd never use that phrase myself - that sounds worse, in my opinion, than "OK Google Now" - but perhaps there are other phrases that start with "OK" that will work.

That was me. It was pointed out that we are doing a lot of free advertising for Google.

I tried "OK Droid Maxx" that was accepted. When I tried using it it put an errant "max" at the beginning of everything.

That being the case ... without changing what I recorded I noticed I could say "OK Droid" and then the command like "OK Droid Time".

The bottom line ... experiment and see what you come up with.

Wow ... I just recorded "OK Moto X" and got a similar result. I can say "OK Moto Time" and it will give the time.

I just would like to make up my own personal phase or name to activate the voice features.

Try it. I made up mine. If it doesn't accept it after you repeat it a few times try something else.

I have no idea what the variables are. I just reported the results of my minor experiment.

A lot of words that you would like to use just won't work.

I'm gonna try to do "Okay Moto"

If that works, I'll be very happy, that's what I wanted to it to be anyway. (Did the first ads/promos for X say that was the default? When was it changed?)

It will be interesting ... record OK Moto X ... and see if it then kicks in when you say ... OK Moto. It does for me. I wonder if it varies from one user to another.

The ad's for the Moto X actually stated that the activation phrase was customizable via Motomaker, but it doesn't seem it can be changed (other than aforementioned trickery) in settings.

... for now. Once we get root, I am sure the devs will figure out a way.

Did you try recording OK Moto X and the try executing OK Moto Time? It worked for me.

I tried a couple different variations but didn't work quite as well as OK Google now, so I'm back to that.
