Rooting does not mean installing a custom ROM like you seem to think.
I assume English is not your native tongue as the answers to your questions are in the opening post.

This is a method for rooting Jelly Bean. Android 4.1 is jelly Bean, not ics like you seemed to think. Follow instructions in the opening post to the letter. If you're still unsure then don't root as you'll just do more harm than good.

Your system seems sooo much simpler than odin, may I know if it only works with standard 4.1, or any 4.1 rom as this, would this one be a custom rom maybe the italian job?, how would I know?, is it as good as standard samsung 4.1 or is it souped up 2.1? .....or should I try load samsung 4.1 then use your method? would appreciate your cooments thank you.

Hi gwm121,

This root method is for the GT-I8160 Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and is based on the "Universal Root Script".
It should also work fine on the "P"&"L" versions of the phone.

Even if you had a Custom Rom in your phone, that custom Rom would be based on some stock firmware.

So yes it is safe for you to use this root for as long you have Jelly Bean 4.1.2

How do you find that?
-First select "settings",
than select "About device",
and read the
*Model number:
*Android version:
*Baseband version:
*Kernel version:
*Build number:

Because you mentioned (desporto)
I think the shop flashed the Portuguese TMN XXMC8 in your phone...
That firmware is old and is not very good. You can always flash some newer and better jelly bean firmware, or the original Jelly Bean firmware for your country.
So is entirely up to you what to do next...

Hi . I updated from ginger bread to version 4.1.2 and then rooted the phone. It appears to have worked as I now have the Supersu app. I don't have mobile browsing on my phone and only ever connect to the internet via wifi at home. Problem is since I rooted the phone I cannot connect to the home wifi despite the phone reporting it as connected.

any one have any suggestions?

I don't think root is for you.
Root is for advanced users only.

Did you tried to connect your phone to the WiFi router after you updated to JB ?

That is not how you check if you have root. You shouldn't root your device if you don't know how to use it. You can download the SuperSu app from the play store. But that alone will not give you root access.
Are you shore Root is for you?

In your phone select "settings",
Than select "Wi-Fi",
And select "add Wi-Fi network".
Or scan for the network from your router.

In your router follow the troubleshooting instructions in the manual. Try connect other device to the router. Or just power off and unplug the router for 30 seconds and try the connection again.

ME1? Are you sure that's for the i8160 model and not one of the variants? It will probably still work but you wanna be cautious.

Yes I'm sure ... last week I have updated from GB to JB 4.1.2 with Kies ... my model is GT-I8160P (with NFC) ... my buildnumber is I8160PXXME1 ... this was selected and installed by kies !

So it isn't the i8160 model. It's the i8160p. The NFC model I believe which has different firmware. Should still work but I don't have an NFC model myself so I'm not certain.

Hi henkelus,
The only difference between your device the (GT-I8160P) and the basic (GT-I8160) is only the (NFC).
So I think you shouldn't have any problem using this root method.
I didn't posted the (ME1) firmware on the topic only because I didn't received any feedback from any user so far. And also I have no way to test it myself.

The third option in recovery mode should say:
"Install update from external storage".
If not ? Than there is something wrong with your phone...

in recovery mode the choices are:

reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

so where should i put the root.zip?

Do you have a external sd card in your phone ???

the external sd card is a little memory card that you insert in the slot labeled (micro sd).

There is no point in attempting to root your device if you already having trouble to understand something meaningful as checking for the existence of a external sd card in your device.
...you will only end up doing more harm than good to your phone.

When I try to reboot using volume up+home+power after holding them down it just resets and doesn't give me any options, goes back to normal. Also Its a new Ace 2 and it displays GTS7560M while it is restarting so is it a different model? There are some back up and factory setting reset options under setting but I don't think that will help. Not sure how to proceed.

Hi 00Dusty,
Don't use this root on your phone.
The script was modified to suit the GT-I8160 only.
If you attempt to do it, you will very likely end up bricking your device.
Try searching on Google for: "" GT-S7560M root instructions"".
