Root [ROOT] Ultimate DROID3 Root/ROM Thread

Definitely enjoying the ROM. Not 100% issue free, but way better than my debloated stock was.

I personally don't use the voice commands, but I remember reading that the feature was stripped out to keep the ROM lightweight. This suggestion from the ROM thread on XDA seems to help:

"Try installing Google's "Voice Search" from the market. Re-enables voice to text, etc in most lightweight ROMs."

Does Motofail still work? I tried to root a Droid 3 (.906) using Motofail and I couldn't get it to work. No superuser, verified no root with app.

I also tried psouza's latest 1-click that uses the Motofail exploit (June 2013), and that failed in step 3 - couldn't get su, busybox, and superuser.apk on the phone.

PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.09.zip?, does not contain motofail exploit as far as I can tell.

My bad. I thought the hat-tip on psouza's site crediting Dan Rosenberg for the exploit meant it would be just as good as running Motofail. Looking at it now, it is clearly not for .906.

make sure you right-click on the motofail_windows.zip file, extract the files to a folder on your PC, and click the

I did this, as described and as in the video. I am having the same issue as others recently commenting on the video.

There are many threads saying to verify you have superuser after running Motofail, but I don't see anywhere what to do if you don't have it. Other than run it again and cross your fingers...

Ok, I think that this is what I would do, if you haven't tried it already:

- download the motofail_windows.zip file
- create a folder on your c: drive called "Motofail". Not where you store documents - in the root of the C: drive.
- unzip the motofail_windows.zip file
- copy the contents that were unzipped into the c:\motofail folder that you created

[EDIT - this is a list of the files you should have
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
Superuser.apk
adb.exe
busybox
motofail
run.bat
su
]

- click the start button, type "cmd.exe" into the search field and hit enter. That should start a plain black window with white text
- at the prompt, type the command cd \motofail and hit enter. The prompt should change to C:\MOTOFAIL > (the case could be different)
- with the phone connected, then type the command run and hit enter.

If you see any error messages at all, report what you see.

See if that helps.

try disabling virus protection before downloading and running motofail.
some virus protect programs will remove the exploit, without notifying you.

Nah I generally trade up, I don't keep all my phones. :p

I plan on sticking with the X for a while though. I love this phone.
You must be an expert in selling phones and transferring apps and data between phones.

I'm not as ambitious and generally stick to the 2-year upgrade cycle that phone companies like to put us on.

Thanks, that worked! Appreciate the help, sorry it took so long to get a chance to take another go at it.
