Anyone who preordered a Note III thinking iPhone 5S instead?

Okay...I know this is an Android forum. I'm a friend...not here to cause a stir. And please don't call me a troll. I have lots of posts on this board.

I have been a loyal iPhone user for over 5 years. Last year I bought my first Android device, a Note 2.

The reason I went to the Note 2 is because, like most iPhone users who migrate to Android, wanted a larger screen. The 4" screen on the iPhone is horrible.

Now, I have a Note III on preorder from AT&T. Buying it out of contract.

I must say, I was fairly impressed with the iPhone 5S announcement yesterday. As much as I love the larger screen on Android, my personal opinion is that being an Apple multi-device owner (iMac, Macbook, iPad), iOS integrates beautifully with everything. I also think iOS is a better platform outside of not being able to customize without jailbreaking.

Yes, for a good few minutes, I labored over whether I would go back to the iPhone for the 5S.

Well, my decision to stay with Android another year is sound. I am going with the Note III because I need the larger screen.

I am hearing Apple is working on a 6" screen prototype. No telling if they will implement it next year for iPhone 6.

So, if I may ask without any kind of nasty attacks, has anybody switched over to the iPhone 5S who was considering the Note III?

No chance. Looks the same as it has for the last 3 versions and lets face it, you either like simplicity of Apple and don't want anything special, or the flexibility and power that android provides (N2 user!).

Apple users criticise the gimmicky Samsungs but what is that scanner about?!?!? IBM offloaded those from the laptops years ago...

Definately doesnt make me consider defecting to Apple I'm afraid. I think they've had their day...someone commented that they are the sort of phones the parents buy...lol

Being a current iPhone 5 user, I was interested in the announcement yesterday and followed a live blog while at work.

I was very underwhelmed. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised; Apple isn't really great at innovating anymore.

I'm sticking with the Note 3.

I was once offended by this picture, but now I get it. It had a caption of:

This is how iPhone users view the next iPhone

To be honest, I agree with you to some extent. I have an iPhone 5 and an HTC One and if Apple made a bigger screen device, say between 5" and 6", I would probably go back to solely being with Apple for my phones and tablets. However, I love the screen on my HTC One and whenever I use the iPhone 5 it makes me cringe a little with the small screen. For me, everything about it is perfect, save for the battery life and screen size. I'm not saying the iphone has a crappy battery or screen, far from it, but my HTC is just better.

At the end of the day, I have no allegiance to any device, brand or OS, I just use whatever fits my need, hence currently having both Apple and Android devices.

I watched the live blog and was planning on getting the 5s IF I was impressed. I really wasn't, the finger print scanner was cool and the upgraded processor seems better. The marketing strategy Apple kept referring too was "40x the performance of the original iPhone." All I could think was how does that compare with the iPhone 5?

I still too have the iPhone 5 as a back up in case I'm disappointed with the Note 3, the S4 definitely disappointed me, but I loved the Note 2, I'm just hoping the Note 3 doesn't follow in the S4's footsteps.

I had already pre-ordered my Note 3 prior to the 5S event, but it really cemented my decision. I do too much stuff with my mobile device to continue to be stuck with a 4" screen and limited multi-tasking ability. Also really looking forward to learning the S-Pen and seeing how it can enhance my productivity at work.

I'd go with your gut and what device suits your needs the most. I was going to write a long explanation of why, but ultimately, I think it comes down to your own personal needs. I'm not a fan of Apple and have never been and will not likely purchase an apple product for myself, unless absolutely necessary, but I've always felt they make a quality product. Do I feel the iPhone has always been overhyped and marketed brilliantly by Steve Jobs? Yes, absolutely (considering Windows Mobile actually had more functionality than the iPhone, prior to the iPhone even being announced or released). Would I think a person is insane for moving back to the iPhone? Absolutely not, especially when all of the tech they are surrounded by, are apple devices (e.g. Macbook/Macbook Pro/Ipad/Ipod/etc.).

The smartphone market has grown so large that it has subdivided again. The iphone is really the smartphone for the following people:

1. Those trapped in the Apple eco sytem of ieverything, and are afraid to change.
2. Those people who only want to talk, text, and use Facebook.

The market that demands something close to a mini computer, with many extras, only consider Samsung, HTC or Sony.

BTW, did Apple improve the battery on these new phones ?

'Underwhelmed' at the new iPhone offerings is an UNDER statement. More of the same with slightly better processor/memory/screen/camera. Yawn.

I really liked my iPhone. They make a great product but they are slipping fast. I look at it this way: iPhone HAS to address the following basic things to lure me back:

Bigger screen
Bigger (longer-lasting) battery
Widgets
Gesture-type keyboard (Swype, SwiftKey Flow, etc.)

Add just those few things to their good looks, quality build, seamless and smooth operation and then I would be interested. But as of right now I don't see a single thing that even remotely temps me to go back.

I am interested to see what the new operating system looks like. One of the things I liked about my iPhone was that whole 3D look. I'm not sure I'll like the new look. I have three immediate family members still using iPhones, so I'll get to see it up close.

As someone who has had every iphone since there initial release(usual about 3 of each one!) I have to say i have been tired of them since the iphone 4 came out. It was a great phone but iOS just got stale at that point.

Anyway...since the iphone 4's release back in 2010 i have tried every damn flagship android phone out there since i am absolutely dying to get away from iphones. The ONLY Android phone that really got my attention was the Note 2. I had it twice, and almost a 3rd time..But the screen and camera were just no go's for me. That and there is just something about android in general that's very industrial i guess. ICS polished it up a boatload, but it just seems weird compared to iOS. Maybe the attracting thing with iOS is the uniform icons...they all look the same square shape. With android i guess it's kind of jumbled/thrown together it looks like.

I could ramble on like that for probably another 3 or 4 paragraphs about different things but i won't. My plan is to pick up the note 3 and the iphone 5s this time around. I am saying screw it, i am going to have both phones this time around. No screwing around :D

I don't get it :(

It's a cleaner ball, but it's the same ball he has in his mouth. I thought the message was crystal clear in that pic and its exactly what I thought of the new iphone announcement.

In all fairness, it's what I thought of the new htc one announcement as compared to the htc 4g lte I already had too.

Being ready for something clearly in a class by itself, I'm ready to try the N3. I actually can't wait.

By the way, I think the big deal in the apple announcements wasn't the 5s, it was the new cheaper model in the rainbow of colors. Media outlets have been begging for a cheap version of the iphone and now they have it. It unfortunately got shadowed by the stupid ass fingerprint scanner.

I believe apple will regret that as much as htc regrets trying to bring a 3d phone into a market that wasn't ready for it. The whole of all of their new developments is going to come down to people saying they got an android phone because they didn't think the fingerprint scanner was that big of a deal. You'd think these guys would have learned their lessons by now.

I never considered the note as I thing its just too big to be my main device. I kinda think my s4 is a little on the large side also but I've gotten used to it. I was completely underwhelmed when I saw the 5s. Poo. Really apple? How lame. They are steady falling behind. If the android opening system would be close to being as good as iOS is, apple would be doomed. I just came from an iPhone, and I'm sorry to say the iOS works and just flows much better. Too many steps to change settings on the android os. Add to the fact that I can't send videos via text that don't look like they were recorded with a flip phone. The screen isn't as accurate as the iPhone either and this phone lags more than my ip5 too. It has its flaws, but the major killer on the iPhone is the micro screen it has. That was the main reason I switched.
