Root Fastboot Gone

Evo 4g - original

History: Tried flashing a new ROM and had issues. Phone went back to S-On because of those issues. I decided to un-root in order to re-root and must have damaged my firmware.

Now: Phone won't charge unless it is off. Computer won't recognize my phone. Lost Fastboot option on the phone.

HBoot is 2.10
Supersonic

A buddy looked at it and thought I was somewhere between a soft-brick and hard-brick...otherwise the phone works well (can make/take calls, email, download apps, etc.)

Please let me know if you need any other info.

Thank you ahead of time.

What rom did you try to flash? And did you do anything else to try to fix said issues?

Can you post back what everything says in your bootloader screen?

What "fastboot" option are you referring to? The one that you can "check/uncheck" the box?

What rom are you on currently?

Sorry for the numerous questions ;)

No worries. Thank you for the reply.

Tried flashing Jelly Bean that someone ported from the Shift on XDA. Previous versions worked but the latest failed. I was troubleshooting an error when I ran into trouble (don't remember the error). On a reboot, I noticed that I had S-On so I thought I was un-rooted and did a factory reset and flashed an RUU I found only. It was over a month ago.

Bootloader screen:
Supersonic EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.10.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.11.19

Correct, the check/uncheck box

Currently Stock Supersonic

Thanks

Sorry for the delayed reply :(
In your "about phone" menu, what version of android are you on?
5.07.651.1?
or
4.67.x.x?

This might be a tough one for me, but all is not lost.
I'm sure my pal Ocnbrze will come around to help later on:)

Let me do some thinking here...

Can you get into recovery? I am inclined to think not, depending on the ruu you used, but, just curious to get more info is all:)

Perhaps a fresh install of the drivers?
Uninstall the old ones first then install new ones.
You can get them from here:
setup_3.0.5551.exe
It's HTC Sync but you just need it for the drivers....I downloaded it and then uninstalled it save for the drivers :)

If that does not work, do you have another usb cord to try?

Edit: ah crap...just saw your post...geez I type slow :)

Drivers were installed earlier in the week when a friend looked at the phone. He used another USB cord but said he couldn't get the phone to consistently repeat issues in order to troubleshoot. Also, he said that not having fastboot was the issue and that without it, I can't write over the firmware to fix my problem.

I'm going to suggest this one, BUT, please wait until I get confirmation of this.
This is ran via the bootloader as a PC36IMG.zip file.
Download, and rename the file PC36IMG.zip and put it on the sd card...not in any folder.
Also make sure you don't have an extra .zip behind it. Otherwise, bootloader will not see it.
Have you done that process before with the other ruu you tried?

well you are on froyo according to your hboot and baseband. you will need to root by using either the ruu that mikey provided to upgrade the phone and then use this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

or you can use unrevoked from this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

your friend is right about fastboot (drivers) which you will need for unrevoked.....in the link above is a link to the unrevoked wiki that has the fastboot info....but here it is anyways:public:windows_hboot_driver_install [RootWiki]

not sure exactly what you did to unroot the phone like that.....this should not have just happened by flashing a rom.....just curious as to what you did?

I couldn't remember how I rooted it (I know I used Captain Throwback for S-OFF and originally rooted to MikG3.1). Anyways, i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141. Unrevoked kept giving me the "Waiting for Device" message so I put the RUU on the SD Card using a MicroSD Reader and flashed the new RUU.

Is flashing the new RUU (using the MicroSD reader) going to bring back FastBoot?

fastboot is just an option in the bootloader. when you flash a ruu or take an ota, usually the bootloader will change and you should get the fastboot option afterwards.

the probably the reason why you were getting the waiting for device was that the hboot drivers were not installed correctly as per the wiki i linked.

using the ruu should be fine and then you can use the capt's method again to gain root again.

edit: that link you posted is to unroot the phone. from what it seems, you already are.....so there is no need to follow that guide.

Thank you both. The RUU took and I have Fastboot now. Also, my phone charges while on (instead of only when off). I do have another issue though...

I cannot access my SD Card when plugging the USB to my computer. I've tried turning USB Debugging on (and off), but nothing works. I have the driver installed and updated. No HTC Sync (I uninstalled it). Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

Not a different cord either?
Well, you could use AirDroid to transfer files from the sd card to the computer.

It does it via WiFi when the computer and the device are both on wifi. :)

I know it doesn't solve the issue of why the device and computer can't see each other.

When you plug into the computer, is there any indication at all from the phone or computer that something got plugged in?

hmmm, well, I don't know how this works or exactly how this works, but I have sometimes used it to remove the device from the usb so that it will add it again when plugged in.
You may know more on how it works since you are smarter than I am when it comes to computers :)
