I see that the Nexus 5 is expected to have wireless charging (like the Nexus 4). That seems like a real handy feature. Do any of you guys have any experience with wireless charging, and what do you think of it?

I have no experience but I think the chargers are way too expensive
There seems to be some inexpensive ones on fleabay. Search on Qi wireless charger pad.

LG has a good one for around $40 I believe. I have four. Two of them fit into a custom car mount that I ordered off of ebay. Work great for the qi phone I have (wife's s3). The chargers aren't expensive when you figure you don't have to buy any custom docks/mounts anymore.

I have two of the wireless chargers for the N4 (the wife and I both have the Nexus 4). Every once and a while the charger doesn't charge but the fact that I can dock the phone to charge makes things so much easier than finding a cable to plug into at the end the night. Usually, this (not charging) happens because the phone was not set properly. Excited for the new Nexus to having the same tech as the year before!

I have two of the LG wireless charging orbs for my Nexus 4 and they work great. It's super convenient to just put the phone on it. I haven't had any trouble with it not charging that I remember. I just make sure the light comes on my phone when I put it on there, and I use Light Flow to tell it not to turn the screen on.

My experience is this.... I used to have a Droid Incredible 2. After just under a year, the charging port broke. Happily, my local VW store had a wireless charging back for the DINC2 and a charging mat in stock, so I bought that.. and life went on.
I'll never own another phone that can only be charged one way.
I'd prefer to have a swapable batter, but given the price and all the other stats of the Nexus 4, I can live without that.
I use the same Verizon charging mat with my Nexus 4 -- it's my primary/nighttime charger.
The mat was, I think, $35... and given that I've used it for 2 years on two phones, that's cheap.
To me... it's how many times a day do you plug in a charger? How much does the phone get moved around with the charger in? All that plugging in and movement is stress to the port. Wireless charging is really an inexpensive backup/insurance policy to prolong the life of a phone.

I have the n4 and the charging orb and love it!

I have a Nexus 4 and use the wireless charging orb at work on my desk, it's very convenient to just sit it down or quickly pick it up when I'm in a rush. Am I lazy? Maybe a little, but I'm an engineer and like to think of it as more efficient use of my time.

i think that until the price of the wireless chargers come down, and all of the wireless companies agree on a certain standard that will work across all future devices, the feature will be just that: a feature. It will not become a standardized way of charging and will probably phase out within a few years.

How fast is the QI wireless charging, I keep seeing complaints that it takes twice as long as a cable. Do they have different current amperage ones that are higher speed? I seem some advertised but don't know if they really are better.

I also find that it takes longer to charge wirelessly than through hard wire. Also, for the price I paid for the convenience of wireless charging, I think i've learned my lesson to forego the expense and just buy an extra usb cable for my car. More than anything, i wish the Nexus Devices came with removable batteries again!
