Hello. I've been with Metro for years now. Was one of the last to upgrade to a smartphone, and when I did, the cheapest plan available was $50/month (which was the minimum for all smartphones). Was on metropcs website looking into upgrading my phone when I noticed the $40 plan was now available for ALL the phones. I tried switching back to the $40 plan on their website and it said it wasnt available for my phone (LG Optimus which is 3G), so I called them up. What a nightmare. At first, the woman I got on the phone barely spoke English and was talking a mile a minute. I had to keep asking her to repeat herself and I can tell she was getting annoyed. When I asked her why the $40 plan was not available for my phone, she said because I have a smartphone. When I replied that the $40 plan was available for all the smartphones they offer and asked her the same question again, she started pressing buttons in my ear and wouldnt stop!! So, I hung up and called again. Got a different woman on the phone this time that spoke better English that gave me a slightly different answer. At first she said it was because I had a smartphone. When I gave her the same reply I gave the first woman, she said "well, if youd let me finish Ill explain". LOL Whats wrong with these people? I didnt even cut her off... she was finished! She then proceeded to tell me that because my phone is 3G that the $40/month plan is not avalable for my phone. I then made her aware that there is a Huawei 3G phone available on the site for $40 a month. Now, this woman started being an a-hole and sounded like she just dropped her headset (or the phone) and just left it there. I was able to hear talking in the background. Eventually I just hung up. Can anyone shed some light on this please? Thanks!

Where on the website did you see that the $40 dollar plan is available for all phones? If I'm not mistaken those plans are only for 4g phones. I know its stupid because you have a 3g phone and should be paying less but metro seems not to care about their old customers.

I can see a bunch of people leaving Metro on 12/31/2014 the last day 3G is up and running.

From a business standpoint, a company would be foolish to just dump its old customer base. This is why people are already seeing an influx of GSM promotions to entice customers to leave the CDMA network in favor of the GSM. One such promotion is the current 4 lines of service for $100.00/month. As 2013 gives way to 2014, i am pretty confident in MetroPCS giving its current CDMA customer base even more incentive to leave the CDMA network in favor of the GSM network.

This is news to me. I'm sure I will have updated by then though.

When I click on shop phones, then look at plans available. They offer the $40 plan for every one of them (The Huawei Valiance and the Alcatel 768 (which isnt even a smartphone) are the only phones that are not 4G, and the $40 plan is still offered.

I would call them again ask them if they can put your plan at the 40 because you plan on getting a 4g phone anyways ( don't know if that's what you really want to do but tell them anyways you're getting one) they should be able to do it because I'm in a family plan and we pay the 4g price, only me and my sister have 4g phones, my dad and aunt don't have 4g phones but have the plan.

I dont even know what CDMA/1x means. Curious why they wont offer the $40 for people with these phones though.

Simply put: they use a different way to service phones that do not use SIM cards. I would assume a loss of revenue and/or people keeping their old CDMA phones if they were still $40. After all, why would someone buy a new GSM phone if they pay the same with their old phone?

So youre saying all these phones they are selling now have sim cards?
