Its already $50 off ($250) and it just came out 2 weeks ago? They must not be selling well..
Or Virgin Mobile just may be making a competitive marketing move.
RealFastOne makes a good point. I have no idea if this phone is selling well or not, but promo pricing early on is normal for VM.
VM follows a pattern. They release a new phone and charge full price, but just for a couple of weeks or so, making all the "I
MUST have this phone on day one" crowd pay full price. (They also "soft launch" where the phone is available at full price for a couple of weeks or so, but they haven't officially announced availability or started advertising and promoting the phone.)
Once VM is able to get "normal" stock levels at Target, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Walmart and their online store, VM rolls out a promotional price to draw attention. The promo is a limited duration - like a month or so, then the phone goes back to full price, where it stays for a long time.
The phone may get promos from time to time (Valentine's day, etc.), but for the most part the phone doesn't drop in price permanently for a year or so, until after it is superseded by whatever "better" device.
The Optimus V got good reviews and sold well from day one, but it still had promo pricing very early in its life.
Even VM's "full retail" price is subsidized compared to the same phone at "full retail" from Sprint, TMo, etc., so a phone from VM is discounted no matter what. The promo pricing just adds a little bit more to the subsidy.
