Ever since I got my nexus 7 I have been seeing rooting everywhere. I am a afraid of it because of bricking and having to go through the trouble of backing up my files and apps. Is it worth it to root my device? Also, once rooted are there any dangers of my device being bricked still or any chance that something bad could happen to it later on? Thanks for any help!

Unless you have a specific reason to root, I see little need to root a Nexus device since it has the latest possible Android version. So instead of answering your question, I will ask one... what do you hope to gain?

PS - I used to root just because I could, but I got over it... however, it is fun to play with technology.

The reason why I want to root is for apps that require it and maybe to play around with some of the popular Roms. I really just to make sure I am not risking much when I root

I use lots of apps that require root in order to gain new functionality.

For me its less about flashing Roms and more about having full control over my device.

Nexus devices are insanely easy to root, and the chance of a brick is pretty slim.

That is good to hear, I was afraid of completely wrecking the thing but now I think I'll root my device soon.
