Recently my stratosphere started having problems charging. The cord has to be in at just the right angle or else the phone won't charge. I've tried many different cables, many different chargers, and many different power sources. None of those make a difference. I've also tried cleaning out the inside of the connector. A lot of stuff came out, but it still has the same problem.

Having experience with surface mount soldering, I was just gonna replace the connector myself, but when I opened up the phone the connector isn't your standard 5 contact micro-USB port. It has 7 contacts. Digikey and other companies don't even carry anything with 7 contacts. Any one know where I can find the part?

Also, my phone is rooted, so I'm guessing any form of warranty I had before is now void.
P.S. I would love to show you a picture, but it wouldn't let me because I'm too new here.

Holy expensive. thats more that 4 times the cost of a typical connector. the pin placement isn't quite right with that one however.

I had the same problem with my phone. Turns out the pin for the 5 volt VBUS was broken and only made contact if the cord tugged on the connector in just the right way (and not very good electrical contact at that).

My solution was to buy a phone with broken screen off eBay for $11 (including shipping) and tear that open to salvage the connector. Worked like a charm, though I am now starting to have similar issues again.

Would be nice to know the manufacturer and part number of the actual connector that Samsung used though....
