Upgrade & Keep Unlimited - Verizon site error?

I just went thru the whole process and it allowed me to keep my unlimited data. But I didn't go thru with the order since I couldn't use the promotion code to get a discount. And the free activation they advertise on the page is only for new lines, not existing customers.

So I'll stick with my S3 for a while longer........and sit on my unlimited data too.

Latoya: I do apologize. It is a error within Verizon the only way to keep your unlimited data plan is by paying full retail price for the device.
Hello: I thought that may be the case but I have heard conflicting reports from people who have spoken with CSR's such as yourself, the responses seem to be split 50/50.
Hello: Those who have upgraded while this error is on the website, what will happen with their accounts?
Latoya: They will have to switch to the correct data plan.
Hello: So they just lost their unlimited data plans then. Seems to be a good "error" for Verizon to have made especially since the unlimited plans seem to be so unwanted by the company

Latoya: Thank you for holding for me. I checked with my supervisor and she verified the same information for me. We certainly do apologize for any misinformation but we want to make sure customers are aware of any impact on their services. Could she help clarify the process any for you?
Hello: That is the information I was looking for, in summary, if I wish to keep my unlimited data plan I must pay full retail for a new phone. The Verizon website is in error and anyone using their susidized upgrade at this time while attempting to maintain an unlimited data plan will be switched to another data plan when the error is corrected. Do I have this all correct?
Latoya: Yes you do!
Hello: Thank you. I would suggest removing that option from the website as it has already caused problems and the longer it is up, the more issues there will be.

I recently used my upgrade for the new G2 and went through the online order process. I used the verizon30 coupon and even selected my new data plan. After receiving my new phone I swapped sim's from the GN into the G2 and I was up and running. That was about 2 weeks ago and when I check Verizon's site it still shows me having my unlimited data. Hmmm....

I'm not that surprised Verizon is honoring the upgrades.

Could you imagine the negative press they would receive, along with all the angry customers who would have lost there unlimited data plans after the site told them they could keep the plan?

I wonder how many people got to keep their unlimited plan.

I'm not surprised either. Customers agreed to a contract with unlimited data on it, and if they removed or changed it, that would could as a materially adverse change. In that situation, they would have to send written notice to all the customers they did that to. The customer would then have the option the accept the changes or void the contract. If the customers choice to void, that would likely mean that Verizon would lose out on the subsidy repayment of quite a few devices. Plus all those who voided could then leave as customers. They probably came to the conclusion that the money lost on data wasn't worth the money lost on subsidies and losing customers outrageous monthly payments.
