How to make an apk from Profile in the ICS version?

Hi,

I have the most recent Tasker v4.1u3m installed on an S4. I have a simple Tasker "Profile" called Wifi that has a Wifi On task and Wifi Off task. The Profile turns Wi-Fi on and off, based on the proximity to a location. Nothing new here and no problems, it works.

Today I installed the "APP Factory" add-on, thinking that I could export the Profile as an APK and let someone else use it on their phone as a standalone app, without having Tasker installed. However, when I long press on the Profile name, and click the export icon at the top, I just see options to export to XML.

That said, if I create a Task (ie. the top center button in Beginner's mode), and give it a required icon, I can long press on the Task and export the bogus test Task as an app.

Any idea why I don't have an option to export to APK from the Profile?

I appreciate your comments and guidance.

Regards . . .

Not sure if this is best pace for question but reading this thread reminded me of tasker factory and that I had not played with it yet. Is it possible to create an apk that works automatically without user having to click on an icon

For example using tasker to automate phone WiFi turning on and off depending on location and proximity to home using cell masts. If I made this as an apk export for someone would that mean they would be able to have their phone automatically switch wifi on and off without them having to get involved?

Yes.

My "Profile" uses the carrier's cellular "NET"work to pinpoint my location 24/7. You can select GPS, but that will use more power. and really isn't necessary.

I exported my Profile as XML, changed the location for my privacy, and attached it here. You can import it if you like. Youl'll have to use the map to point at your location of course (easy).

You might need to increase the radius to 1000 meters. I'm just testing 500 meters recently. Also - when on the map screen, read the help. It explains the difference between the network types.

This is kind, thank you. I actually already have something very similar running for myself, i was just wondering how the factory apk worked on someone else's phone. Ie writing some for my elderly mother to help her when she forgets to turn off wifi and then complains about her battery. I wondered if it will install and then just run in the background for her. Would this just replace the battery use of the WiFi being left on with this new apk running in background though and prove a bit pointless for this reason?
