Ok, I applied the update. Obviously it hasn't been running on my phone for long, so these are first impressions and it might be in my head. :)

One thing is, the whole system seems to be responding much faster and smoother. Not that it was slow before, but transitions seem better.

On a bad side, my pictures have a purple tinge around the outsides. The center looks great. I thought it was possibly from being in the Otterbox Defender. Took it out of the case, and had the same effect. On the other hand, the rest of the pictures actually seem clearer than before the update. Again, it could be a placebo effect. I'll have to do more testing. Right now, all of the pictures I have tried since the update have been inside with not great light.

The NFC notification icon is a bit distracting. It feels huge up there. I guess it is nice to be able to see for sure that it is on, but I haven't really done anything with NFC anyway other than just playing with it back when I first got the phone.

The quick settings from the notification pull down is quite handy, and a very welcome addition. I suppose I can get rid of my toggle widgets now. :)

Overall, seems to be a good update so far. :)

UPDATE:

OK, I have had a bit more time to mess around with the update. Apparently the purple hue around the edges was related to poor lighting. Using the camera in a brightly lit area, the pictures look fantastic. Don't know if it has anything to do with the update, although I don't remember having that kind of issue on my phone prior to the update.

One other annoyance I have found, is that it is now notifying me in my notification bar, that the charger I am using is slow, and recommends I use an HTC charger. While this is good information to HAVE, it isn't causing damage, and there is no way to get RID of the notification. This is an extra charger I have at my office and have been using all the way back with my old Evo3D, and for months with my One. I know it is slower, and am OK with that. Unless there is some reason this could damage things, I would prefer to be able to make the notification just go away. I wouldn't even mind if it popped up every time I plugged it in to that charger, as long as I could swipe it away.

Also, I didn't notice it added a new VPN app. That is somewhat helpful, although I don't NEED it on my phone right now.

Beyond that, everything seems to be working pretty well still.

Prior to updating my HTC one (Dev issued phone), you could access the app drawer by pressing the center button on the HTC one, here you could take apps out of this drawer and place them in your task bar ( the blank spaces between the drawer button previously mentioned) and it would in sense "remove" them from the drawer.

However with the update to 4.3 any app moved out of the drawer stays and it almost make a short cut to the app.

Hiding the app hides the app from all view, either by task bar, app window, or back in the main screen, and so far I am unable to have that clean look I am so used to.

This is very annoying and frustrating as I can get back to what I had and I cant find any videos or anyone else having this issue.

I hope I was able to explain this clearly enough I can provide Screen shots if needed or provide further assistance. Any tips tricks or a work around would be very appreciated.

Thank you so much

The lockscreen widget implementation is terrible.

#.1 You cannot remove the HTC "time" at the bottom if you have your own clock widget you essentially have 3 clocks on the screen (Example is Timely or Beautiful Widgets)

#2. Attempting to re-size or move the widget does not save and causes it to display incorrectly (especially 4x4 widgets after you re-lock the screen and cut off a lot of the information (click on pic to enlarge)

#3. Widget information is not saved (BW is an example) it reverts back to defaults every time you enter settings so you have to change the themes/transparency, etc....

________________________________________

In addition to that:
-The developer menu is gone (Sprint)
-The signal strength meter under about>network displays the incorrect DBm levels
-GSam battery meter reports incorrect talk time left (over 6000 hours) Even after reinstall

after playing with it for a little while.. some things i noticed..

dragging up to access google now.. is crap.. doesnt recognize except maybe 1 out of 5 swipe ups..

cant get vibrate off on emails from gmail.

whenever my bluetooth connects, the phone vibrates. wish i could turn this off..

the alarms seem to not respond to snooze from the lock screen, have to open the phone, to turn off the alarm..

battery life is less.. but i think it is something to do with the phone having to relearn? not certain..

The way it is supposed to work is that any App you drag from the App Drawer to a Home page or the Launcher bar creates essentially a shortcut to the App. All apps remain in the list in the App drawer. When the HTC One was launched, HTC changed this behavior . They made it so that any changes to the launcher bar had to happen in the App Drawer. Otherwise if you dragged an App off of the Launcher to the Home Screen it stayed on the Launcher and "doubled" the icon on a home screen. The update essentially put it back to the way Android works so it isn't a bug.

My Stock Messaging App loses my Contacts' pictures every time a new text comes in. The pictures are all coming over from Facebook but changing them to Google does noty fix the behavior. Eventually they all return but sometimes I have to force it by opening the contact, clicking on edit, then clicking on the person's photo and re-selecting the source that I am pulling the picture from. Very annoying.

This is a known issue, seems to be related to the new base.

Nothing you can do for the moment apart from wait for an update from HTC.

So there is no way to get back what i had? How then resolve having 2 phone icons 2 web browers 2 of everything on the task and app drawer?

No way to resolve that short of Hiding the Apps individually but I am not sure how that affects the Launcher Bar or Screens. I guess I am not understanding why that is a big deal. Do you keep any icons on any of your home screens? Putting apps on the home screens has always left the app in the App Drawer as well. The only thing that has changed (back to the way Android works) is the Launcher bar (what you call the task bar).

Moving the app from the app drawer to the home screen does not move it, it makes a copy, the exact choice you have is a "shortcut". As of right now there is no way move the app to from my drawer to the Taskbar or anywhere i can only move shortcuts, which doesnt move the actual app.

When i try to hide the actual app it also hides all shortcuts. Im honestly shocked no one else has noticed this or hasnt seen it as a issue.

My hope is that im missing something that is easy to fix, please help me would screen shots help?

Okay i will do that and ill try to explain further.

My past experience with the HTC one i was able to keep a really clean display (screen shot 1) it just how i like my phone. Pulling apps from the app drawer "removed" from the drawer and placed them on my Taskbar or home bar or whatever you would like to call it (screen shot 1) the 4 main apps were Phone, Messages, Pandora, and Chrome.

However as you can see (screen shot 2) the apps now show up in the app drawer and in the taskbar.

Hiding the apps hides the app from my task bar and app drawer (screen shot 3) my goal is to get back to what i once had where I could just have them in 1 place and not have this doubled effect.

Any help to this would be amazing thank you.
