It doesn't mention anything on the I7500. Just loads of 'upcoming features' on 2.1 and what to expect from it.

Other than the URL stating that its for the I6500, the promo page doesn't tie the OS to any specific phone. If you click on the product page for the Galaxy you would find that the OS is still listed as "1.5"

Yeah, but the I7500U is on the "Android 2.1 Family page", so people are guessing there will be an update.

I can't understand Chinese though.

EDIT: The I7500U is listed, along with the I6500U and the I899, under this image:

I don't know what it means, but the Android 2.1 is pretty obvious.

Also, when asking them for information, I had to select my device... What's the difference between the I7500H and the I7500U ??

lzblovestephy ,

We all get married with i7500.
We bought it simply by seeing its genuine look and android software.
After we got in hand we faced many issues like , battery is discharged within 6 hrs of full recharge, wifi issue and many.

people are updating in this forum with their regional's official samsung firmware to favour.

so, could you update with us, whether samsung i7500 which has been sold in the china market got android 2.1 firmware.

if so, could you update with us the same android 2.1 for samsung i7500 firmware?? ( by downloading from samsung.ch >>>>> uploading into some website like megaupload or mediafire or 4shared wesite plzzzz >>>>> and give us the link ) to enjoy the android 2.1 firm ware ??

I'm pretty sure that the i7500U has the same hardware as the regular I7500 except for the "Anycall" branding on the front and that it supports WAPI. The i7500H has the anycall branding, but no WAPI. Also, in China most people refer to HSPA as WCDMA, which can be confusing because it's not the CMDA they have in America!

I am from Poland ;-) Samsung Poland says that galaxy will be NOT updated.

I don't know where did you read that Polish samsung thinks about galaxy @2.1.

And I think that samsung Poland is totally stupid. They think that galaxy is i5700. ;-)

Hello, Thank you for your letter, thank you for your support of Samsung!

Sorry, currently not updated the phone system upgrade notice. Recommend your local service center to confirm. On the system upgrade, we will reflect to the relevant department, we will gradually update the products after the improvements recommended for your interest in Samsung's new product!

Wow, does that mean that they simply put the i7500 on the Android 2.1 page because they had no other device to show there and that they will remove it when another real 2.1 device comes out in China?

Or does it confirm an eventual update?

EDIT: I received my answer from Samsung. Here is the original:

Since I'm Chinese, I can confirm all the translations thus far are accurate.

Looks like they're all towing the official line (Samsung UK / Samsung China / etc) - there will be no 2.1 unless otherwise indicated by HQ

Hmm... Let's see. 50,000 downloads of Galaxo 1.6.2 rom from Drakaz's repository. I'm not sure these are all unique downloads, but I doubt there are many people who needed to download it more than once.

Judging by the level of knowledge of users that we see on forums, many people actually buy this phone not knowing anything about Android and only finding out later, when they read forums. Many people hesitate to flash their phone with unofficial tools/roms.

It is impossible to name an accurate share of i7500 buyers, who would actually bother to search the internet for bug/roms/help for/with their Galaxies. I would imagine, no more than 20% of users (but it may be as little as 5%) do that.

So if these 5-20% of users constitute roughly 50,000, then total sales of Galaxy worldwide are 250,000-1,000,000. That may not seem like much, if you compare it to iPhone, but it is a lot.
