Advanced Task Killer...Yes or No?

You have to open it first for it to start runninh though. It's going to appear in your notification bar.

Yes, I did open it and it's running well now.

Google Play Store does not use any unnecessary data unless you have apps set to auto update. Just turn it off. And if you don't have it, where do you plan on getting apps? I strongly discourage anyone from going to apk download sites as that is a very good way of getting malware apps onto your phone.

I mis-spoke on this app. I meant Google Play Services, not Google Play Store. I think I do need to re-install it because it is used to update apps. from Google Play. So I will re-install it.

if you want the Play store app back, get it from someone on here instead of taking your chances with installing it from an unknown source. I can give u a private link to the apk if u want

Thanks for the link. I tried to reply to your PM but you need to clear some space in order to get more PM's. ;)

Samsung mobiles are best at hanging when lots of apps are opened. Usually I restart the mobiles when ever I come across such situation.

Yes, I've done the same thing on occasion when it just gets so bound up that a re-start is the only alternative.

Just a quick update. I've been using GreenPower for a few weeks now and it's really an effective application. I'm still learning how to use it to it's max. ability though. It has saved me a bunch of battery.
Can someone link me to an explanation of data and how to minimize it's usage?
I'm learning slowly about data and but could always use more information. For one thing I have an option to completely turn it off but it keeps re-starting.

Thanks again for all the help and information.

Len

Im actually using DS Battery and its great. hibernates apps while screen off but allows them on for a minute every X minutes/hours to get notifications :)
Also has a toggle widget

OK, I just looked DS Battery up and it says it's a 'Root Installer'. It's time to talk to me like I'm 2 again here. What is a Root Installer? There is also another app. mentioned here (Greenify?) that says it must be "Rooted" or something like that. Can someone explain how and why one would do this? Or link me to a place where I can learn how about it. Also, this one refers to Battery saving. Does it also save Data? I don't have major issues with battery, but am looking for a way to shut off the Data except when I need it.

Hey Djlen i forgot about this thread sorry.
If you havent found out, in 2y/o terms, your phone has a child lock on it preventing you from getting into the stuff that can mess it up. "Rooting" is basicly putting a line of code in that removes the childlock so apps etc can get in and doo cool things.
Depending on the phone its usually a case of "flashing" a zip file using a pc and is easy on most phones. Hope that helps a bit :)

here is a great explanation of rooting:http://androidforums.com/faqs/443432-what-root-being-rooted-mean.html

it is not as hard as it sounds and there are many benefits from being rooted.....but it is not for everyone.

the main thing is read and ask questions.
