I ported TWRP a few days ago and decided I would post it here

Odin tar: TWRP2.6.1.0-iconvmu.tar < do not rename this file when flashing in odin
Flasable zip:
TWRP2.6.1.0-iconvmu

used MiRaGe prebuilt for the kernel and added twrp vars to the cm10 device tree

Notice: this will work on any reverb rom (ICS or JB) it works because recovery is seperate from android in most cases (some asus tablets are the exception to this) recovery problems before were caused by some newer phones shipping with a new bootloader which had a new ID for the screen a kernel update from samsung sorts this problem out but the old recoveries were using old kernels which didn't support the new screen ID this uses the latest MiRaGe kernel which is based on the new kernel update from samsung

UPDATE: thanks to Dees_Troy (creator of TWRP) this device is now official, see http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/208 for more info

Are there any advantages or handicaps in having one instead of the other? My 6.0.3.6 CWMT is working well, and unless there is some major caveat to TWRP, I can't see a reason to switch...just me, though.

sorry for the slow reply but in short, no, you don't NEED twrp but I will say that the features that are built in are a very big convenience that I've grown to love and I'm partial to TWRP because with it's file manager and terminal I've saved past phones from bricking when a mistake was made that would have otherwise rendered my phone a paper-weight plus I use it to flash bootimages plain with the terminal and flash_image... AND it's themable, I'd say try it see if you like it and if you don't just reflash CWMT ya never know

I don't think that the CWMT 6.0.3.6 or TWRP 2.6.1.0 will work for ICS. The best recovery that I personally had for ICS was the CWMT 6.0.3.0.
But I think that before you can get that, you have to have CWM 6.0.2.3...meaning that v6.0.3.0 is a .zip file that you flash THRU the 6.0.2.3 (which you have to push THRU Odin to the phone).

6.0.3.0 is nearly identical to 6.0.3.6.
Once you have your recovery set-up of your liking, I recommend downloading Power Menu from the Play Store; it's WAAAY easier than holding the vol.down & power button method.

I've got an ICS phone that won't update, and planning to flash JB ROM. Can I use this recovery to backup both ICS and JB?

I'm assuming you're talking about TWRP 2.6.1.0 here, right?

MY experience started with the 6.0.2.3. I downloaded the file and pushed it to the phone thru Odin. Used that recovery until the CWMT 6.0.3.0 was available. At that point, it was available in a .zip file only. I downloaded the .zip file, flashed it into the phone thru the recovery I already had in place...the 6.0.2.3.
From here, I used it (CWMT 6.0.3.0) until I updated my phone to JB 4.1.2. mrg666 put the CWMT v6.0.3.6. out to solve the problems that the out of the box JB 4.1.2 Reverb owners were having. It was then that I switched to THAT recovery. I have yet to attempt a recovery flash back to 4.0.4 with this version recovery.

Yes you can

Evidently, magnux is attesting that it is indeed possible to flash-back...
Uh.... should I be concerned here?

If there isn't a recovery that works for both ICS and JB, what is the correct order of operations? Are steps 3 and 4 in the right order?

1 Flash ICS recover (which?) ,
2 backup ICS,
3 flash JB ROM
4 Flash JB recovery (which? This one?)
5. backup JB

If you already have the 6.0.2.3 recovery, I would just follow this link:

http://androidforums.com/reverb-all-things-root/765187-recovery-cwmt-6-0-3-6-jb-md6-mi2.html

from there, you should be all good...
Hope this helps...

Peace,
Sox

Recovery doesn't really matter on your android version there was however a thing with a different bootloader but mine and mrg666's recoveries support both bootloaders thanks to a kernel update which makes the kernel detect both bootloaders screen ID's so with this just flash it in odin or cwm if you already have it and it'll be fine.

Odin failed -- should I just try another recovery?

<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> TWRP2.6.1.0-iconvmu.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<ID:0/006> Odin v.3 engine (ID:6)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..
<ID:0/006> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/006> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<ID:0/006> Added!!
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

ETA: I tried flashing xInterlopeRx's cwm recovery, and got the same "Complete(Write) failed." message.
ETA2: I also tried swapping cables. No joy.

dark_samus as you probably may know I have the Samsung Galaxy Rush and the Reverb is the sister phone to the Rush, would this TWRP Recovery that you guys have for the Reverb work on my Rush?? Or would I have to modify it with the Rush's screen ID?? Is there anything else that would have to be modified in it to function properly on my Rush?? Thanks for your answer in advance, I would love to check this out on the Rush :D

EDIT: I think I should also mention that the Rush and the Reverb have the exact same partitions as well :p

if the partitions are the same all it would need is a kernel change and an assert change if you have a cm device tree I could make one easily sorry for the late reply

The Rush doesn't have a cm device tree as of yet but I'd be more than happy to point you in the direction for our kernel's github...

EDIT: https://github.com/animania260/android_kernel_samsung_prevail2spr--Galaxy-Rush-

And yes it says prevail2 for it because that's the code name that Samsung gave the Galaxy Rush, just to clear up any confusion man... :)

Any help/work you could do on this to help us get TWRP Recovery on our Rushs would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance... :)

kernel source isn't required... I'll just rip a boot.img from a ROM and start a CM device tree, I've got some stuff to add to the reverbs TWRP which should work on the rush as well
