Not sure if I'm at the right place, but...

I have a Kobo Vox that is running using Android 2.3. I would like to wipe it out and install Android 4.x standard. The Kobo Vox OS (Android 2.3) was modified for the Kobo environment and I cannot connect to Google Play.

Can this be done

Looking at the specs, 800mhz CPU, 512MB RAM, you wouldn't want Android 4.x on it, trust me.

Sounds similar (in terms of specs) to the Galaxy Prevail (which devs managed to port ICS to but there are things broken, namely the camera). Trust me, porting a device to a newer version of Android than what the manufacturer released would not be recommended unless you don't mind getting your hands dirty in code

Kobo is an e-reader. If I'm not mistaken one very old one, I haven't seen a Kobo reader in a long time. It is sorta like a Kindle Fire but their market and name just like, died. Think of them as the Zune HD of e-readers.

Nope, Kobo's doing just fine. They're the e-reader/Tablet brand for Chapters/Indigo in Canada. They're actually releasing a new line of Tablets in the near future (they're on pre-order status). They're also (at least the last couple generations) Google Play certified.

The new ones will be released with 4.2.2 installed.

As far as installing a 4.* Android on his Vox, I don't think it's going to happen. Just too old a device.
