Good God, that thing is a monstrosity! It's the same size as the galaxy mega, and at 217 grams it would feel like holding a freaking brick lol. When this phone was first announced, I was sure I would be getting it, but now I don't know who would even buy this thing. For some reason they even shed the ois from the one...their only hope is to make this $100 on contract, but even then I don't see this thing selling very well.

I think i'm going to hold on to my LG OG Pro and wait for something else. It's too big for me. I'm not a fan of the Mega, and this phone is just a tiny bit smaller than that. Had they made it about 5.3 - 5.5 inches, I think that would have hit the sweet spot.

Oh well.

I may consider it if I can get it for the same price as my OG ($280) in about 6 months when this thing flops. :)

Seems logical that they would be able to; though, if HTC's warranty would stand through the use of 3rd party is probably a different animal. 2 Mega Pixels is probably in reference to the front camera. The back camera is the same 4 megapixel UltraPixel camera from the HTC One.

Is there something magical about that "ultrapixel" camera that makes 4 megapixels seem less pathetic? Otherwise it seems like a shocking oversight to not have at least 8 to 13.

I hate to say it, but this review highlights exactly my feeling on the max. the only thing that would make me consider this phone right now is the price. It is No better than the LG G Pro. The only plus for it vs what I have no is that it's running more recent OS (sense and JB). Other than that and the front facing speakers, there is nothing about this phone that is enticing.

I just read a good article from pocketnow as to why this phone may be DOA and I couldn't agree more. For what it offers, a 5.3 - 5.5inch form factor with the same design and beefed up internals would have been the sweet spot. As it is, there is no way they can shelf this next to a Note 3 at $300 on contract and expect people to bite. Hell I may even argue that $199 might be too much to ask. Suffice it to say, I expected more but it is what it is.

OK, so i have the HTC DNA and I love it. I also am very much loving this One Max. I don't know why so many of you want it to have a removable battery. I like it having the intact battery. It makes no sense to take the battery out any longer because I see it as a hazard for those of us out there that have dropped their phone and there goes the back and battery all at once. I will have to play with this one in person first but I've been looking for a phablet and this is the front runner over the Note 3. So the video in the article that I read and watched said release time around the holidays, which is fine because I can't upgrade until January.

It is not always about megapixels. The ultra is supposed to be way better then most 8 megapixel phones out now......how does it compare to the note 3's 13 megapixels? is a good question.

Well I have the note 3 and so far I love it.......but the latest specs for the max is not to encouraging for me.......but like I said I need to see one before I make my final decision.

Now as for release date.......I have not heard the holidays.....more like in a few weeks or sooner.......where did you hear that? Do you have a link?

Just saw the specs and was hoping for the Snapdragon 800, but at least it is still a quad core. I saw it is going to Sprint, so I hope they make it a tri-band LTE phone with SVDO/SVLTE. I have a Evo LTE which will make it technically an upgrade but I agree with Logic717. If the max is over $200, I may stay with my EVO LTE until the next "flagship" phone is released.

Sprint just put up a landing page

Obviously It didn't fulfill alot of my wants. :mad: I suppose I ought to wait to see the screen quality in the store before I make a final decision and make sure it is available in 32GB & Black (anybody seen any word/rumors about colors?).
I've been pretty set on getting it for a long while (been waiting FOREVER). I think I might just get it anyway to tide me over until something else shiny comes along shortly. Forget re-upping the carrier contract though.

And yeah I was all excited for the Note 3. Hell I wanted the Note 2 up until I heard that the 3 was hitting the market soon. Here's where I'm at. I started my first smart phone with an HTC. I didn't leave them until I had to change carriers for a bit. That's when I took up Motorola. I love them, but I have a bad taste in my mouth for many different reasons. One being Motorola's pure lack of wanting to help their loyal customers by keeping them with their product but giving them one a little bit better after going thru 4 of their phones. One of those which arrived DOA which is pretty much never heard of. Another reason is that being Verizon's pure lack of wanting to help a loyal customer by swapping to a different Motorola device after 4 bad ones. And finally, just Motorola's overall product being claimed as the best and then dropping the support ball on it the first chance they get. Ok enough ranting, I have come back to HTC. I'm floored in amazement as to the quality of product I have gotten with the DNA.

I would get the Note 3 if everyone's claim of it and other samsung products being plastic and flimsy weren't true. My wife has the S3. Good phone, just the construction is crappy. I have been going around without a case on my DNA for a month now because I actually trust the construction of it. I am extra careful because of it but I do know that accidents do happen. I don't need a sylus for a phablet. That's a good thing for me on the HTC. What I do need is the ability to write notes on the screen in the calender or just put notes on the calender. I coach little league so I need that ability to help out. The S4 won't help me but I feel that between the Note 3 and One Max....I can make that choice. Here's my closing. I do want the best specs possible in my device, but should I need a little extra out of it I have the option to root. And personally touchwhiz just doesn't appeal to me. I've never disliked Sense, and only put up with blur. To be honest I would kill to get a Thunderbolt back in my hands for little to no money. I LOVED THAT PHONE!!! Why so many people hated it or were unhappy with anything about it other than the stupid placement of the charging port I don't know!!

my thoughts exactly on sammies....they are just to plasticky for me with the s3 and s4.....however, the note 3 is waaaay different. the phone does not feel like a toy like the s3 or s4 does to me. the phone actually has some weight to it. and i really like the fake leather look.

i agree with touchwiz and that is why i'm on using nova prime as my launcher.....but i also never like sense either.

all my phones previously have been htc starting with the htc hero......so i like htc but man these specs, if true, are really disappointing.

I really may have no choice but to wait till the next cycle (which is usually February/March for the next big release of phones). I am just too conflicted with the current devices.

Obviously, my heart was set on the HTC One Max but I think at this point, those hopes are dashed. The international version (re: Canadian) will only have 16GB of onboard, not to mention while it's not the end of the world but I was really hoping for Snapdragon 800. Same thing with the amount of RAM. I also know it was a slim chance but a stylus plus some UI enhancements for it would have been nice. Price will be a big factor but somehow i don't get the feeling it will be cheap. It would need to be like $500 off contract but that's not going to happen.

With the Note 3, well, the first inherent problem is that it's Samsung. They are getting too big of their britches and they forget how they got where they are so I simply view it as a way of voting with my wallet, aka not buying their products. It's a nice phone but a little bloated from what I have seen in the videos; the Canadian version differs (no octacore).

The Nexus 5 (although difference category altogether) just doesn't seem like it will be for me, either. No microSD, likely only 16GB version for Canada (useless). Ugly protruding camera and a finger print magnet, front and back.

I'm just waiting for a company to make a phone that doesn't compromise on multiple features so I can throw my money at them but I guess they don't want my money =/

You know, I personally love my DNA. I'm kind of bummed that it hasn't gotten to the status of the One just yet but I can also see from the marketing stand point of how they would want the newest phone to sell more than one that's a year old. I guess it's all down to personal preference as always. I would love a DNA with blink feed and dual front facing speakers. That would make me almost never upgrade. However, I have a kindle fire (still can't seem to root it for some reason) and rather than carry around 2 devices all the time the phablet just seems to be the way to go and until Motorola does something that just blows everyone else out of the way....I'm going to stick with what I started with, and that's HTC. The specs might be a little low than what most wanted to see but having it come with more internal storage and being able to accept an external sd card are big pluses for me.

Wow, that is wild :thinking:

If I was in Canada I'd be pretty angry, even though the specs are not to the level I had wanted or if I had another device (from another manufacturer) fall into my lap with spectacular timing.

Shouldn't it be up to the carriers to decide which products they can or cannot sell or carry in store? (assuming the correct radio bands are there)
Did the carriers tell HTC they weren't interested in the One Max, and rather than HTC say, "there is absolutely no interest in our new device from Canadian carriers" instead they are heading it off and just saying, "that the other HTC devices are good enough" or that "the market isn't right"?

If I were Canadian (living in Minnesota might make me an honorary Canadian?) I would be telling HTC that I am interested in the device and to try to change their pre-conceived notions. I'd also be bugging the local service carriers to forward on my request that they support and carry the new HTC device.

In this day and age, it could even be an online exclusive with on demand order fulfillment directly through HTC, thereby limiting the risk of leaving valuable inventory out on store shelves to stale. Carriers could still provide the limited support and service.

Yeah, certainly not unheard of. I don't think I went as far as to say that. :)

(U.S. perspective) I don't remember that the Butterfly line was ever really rumored to be going to market outside of Asia/East though. I thought they were always Asia/East exclusive even from early rumors. I wanted them to come to the U.S. but I knew there was never really the chance of that happening. Eventually the Droid DNA arrived, but that became a Verizon exclusive :mad:


Based on the HTC webpage I posted last week, and the FCC documents that just cleared for Sprint in the last day or so, it looks like the Sprint HTC One Max is very likely going to be a Tri-Band LTE device. The radios and connectivity of HTC devices may not be the strongest, And Sprint's LTE network is not really built out to fully support it yet, but the necessary connections are there within the device for some extra LTE love. (trying to look on the bright side here in the gloom)

Actually, the biggest feature I am waiting to find out is price, will this be $350.00 like the Note 3 or will it come in at a more reasonable price since it does not have the S-Pen.

Still, the sharks would be cool...;)

My esteemed colleague is correct, megapixels is one of the biggest marketing scams pulled on the public. It only requires 2 megapixels to create an HD image! Click "SHOW" to read more.

This being said, the caveat is more sensor size than megapixels. Each pixel is actually a light gathering device with a micro lens above it, the more you have the smaller the lenses which results in less light being gathered and in turn equals more noise in the image. My 20.2mp full frame Canon which has a sensor the size of a 35mm negative, 36mm x 24mm, is just shy of the 25mp that is necessary for unlimited enlargement like film is capable of. Above that you aren't really gaining anything and are actually opening yourself to more image noise.

Phone sensors on the other end of the scale are far smaller, the biggest ever in a phone I believe was a 1/3" sensor at 4.8mm x 3.6mm! Now remember each pixel is a small lensed light gathering device, to add the 10 megapixels of a 2/3 sensor is like fitting the same amount into an area less than 1/3 the size!

What they do accomplish by going lower in the count is to increase the individual lens size thereby increasing native light gathering potential which gives them an edge in low light imaging without resorting to high ISO ratings which adds noise back into the image.

No kidding, I my contract is up on the 1st of December, I'm hoping it's out by then but I am, at this time anyway, leaning towards the Note 3...

Only a few days later and now I am firmly in the One Max camp again, since it has tri-band capabilities and I want to be ready if that ever arrives here...

3 more weeks until my new contract, I wonder how many times I'll change my mind about which phone to get? :)
