It's branding, pure and simple. Apple is marketing done right. Their commercials make technophiles want to throw something through the TV screen, like announcing noise cancelling mics or panoramic pictures, years after everyone else had those features. But they are effective for the masses, plus the trend factor.
Samsung also did it right, by releasing a brand "Galaxy" and going after the competition, Apple (even though not Android competition). They also released to every single carrier globally. People ask, is that the new Galaxy, etc. They don't know the models, when they are released or anything, just the brand.
IMHO, LG needs to do the following. They need a brand name. They ditched the Optimus name, but come up with a new one that's easy and catchy. And G2? Hasn't that already been used. Did they take the page from the HTC marketing playbook by naming another phone "One" (seriously though, how many HTC "One" phones are there, lol).
Market the hell out of it, and go after Apple and Samsung. Direct comparisions. Make it seem hipper than the competition. Make people want it over the competition.
Showing rear buttons and knock-knock isn't going to cut it. How about a SGS4 owner with a dead battery and his girlfriend's G2 still has 80% battery life. It could start at the beach where he can't see anything on the AMOLED screen in the sun (showcasing the georgous screen), then the speed as it does tasks faster, culminating in his battery dying.
Lastly, a full assault with accessories. How many people see all the accessories and go that route.
Just a quick thought, but that's how you're going to get people. No one wants to spend the time researching, they want to be told why something is better. That's apple's marketing in a nutshell.
do people not realize that LG has made the Nexus 4, and now the nexus 5. Think that should show people how series LG is about Google and the Android OS
I think a lot of people on forums do realize this and is possibly a factor to people skipping over it. Unless they're on Verizon, they may be holding out for the Nexus 5 since they see that the G2 is such a good phone and that the Nexus 5 is based on it.
Most people don't know what a Nexus is, much less want one. Only us forum junkies care.
