UK T-Mob Donut Update
I've been on the phone to T-Mobile UK Tech support, and they have stated that the OTA Donut update is being released to us all on the 12th October

Let's hope they were right!

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question - I'm a HTC Magic user in the UK. It's supposed to be for Vodafone UK, but since it's unlocked I'm using it on Orange UK.

Does anybody know if Donut and future updates are made available directly from Google to the handset, or does the Carrier supply the update?

When I first switched the phone on, it found updates and installed them so I am hoping they are provided by Google, which would mean I still get them.

Orange UK does not carry the HTC Magic so I assume Orange themselves will not push any updates for that handset.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Matthew

Comes from the operator not Google, most operators have a custom Rom and if Orange don't have the Magic you'll have to get a custom dev one yourself. Or put an active Vodafone sim back in it and use it for a bit if you want the Vodafone build.

Re: Donut in Canada

Just spoke to Rogers tech support, and was told the only info they have right now is that is _should_ be coming out somewhere near the end of Oct or beginning of Nov. They also said that they didn't know yet if it would be OTA or a download.

But this is Rogers we're talking about here, so take it all with a grain of salt. ;-)

I bought my Hero from a shop, no contract, nothing, it's just plain HTC Hero with the latest european firmware using 1.5 .

I'm not expecting any OTA notification because O2 UK don't even sell Heroes.

Anyone understand how this is meant to work for us?

Or is it a it grey area because the Hero isn't a "Google" phone, and we'll just have to wait for HTC to issue an update?
