hello all. new to android-3 months. have sgh-s959g from stratesqwalk. im interested in the following issues: 1.how does one get away from gaagles privacy invasions and near total control on my phone and... 2.will rooting my phone allow me to remove gaagles control and many useless apps. i do pc repair.installs etc. and this phone,as is,reminds me of vista with way too much unneeded stuff and nowhere near enough useful and efficient apps ,system controls and processes. I hope someone can help me with these especially as s.sqwalk has throttled data down to modem levels .need to move to another provider asap.been researching issues and its not yet clear how safe it is to root this phone as its an oddity and little dev. \mods etc. for it yet, altho first ones have just shown up (thank you xda.dev.)

thanx for reading.

Hi arkybarky :hello: Welcome to the forums.

I moved your post to the All Things Root forum for you. :)

I'm not familiar with the carrier and the app you're talking about. If you rooted, you could use Titanium backup to freeze apps to see if it would cause any problem before you delete it. You could delete a lot of the bloat a carrier puts on your phone.

thanks for the reply.this phone is unusual and its not clear yet if it can be rooted successfully at all.i am still asking around b4 i try to root it.

Straighttalk is a newer provider and is promoted by walmart stores with tracfone cooperation over att.mno- hope that helps.the sgh-s959 seems to only be made fpr this provider and differs enuff from similar phones to be problematic when attepting to root.if anyone hears of a succesful rooting of this exact phone plez let me know.thanks again.

ps. can u remove any of the google apps that came w. phone after rooting and which ones can be removed?

pps the delay in response was due to st.talk shutting off my data connect. b4 month was up.will be chatting w.fcc about this.

Yes, you can use Titanium Backup and delete Play Books, Play Movies, Play Magazines and Play Music. Just make a nandroid backup in recovery first in case something goes wrong.
thanks Atma.thats exactly the type of info i need to know.

do u or anyone else know if googoo store can be disabled so i can download apps w.o being redirected to playstore + signing in, etc? it seems difficult if not impossible to use device w.o googoo looking over my shoulder!

I don't think so. If you're downloading Play Store apps I don't know anyway around signing in. If you're getting apps from somewhere else, I don't know why it would redirect you to the play store.
