You can't delete the Verizon pre-loaded contacts in the Droid line but you can disable them:

You can't remove them. But, in People, menu, contacts to display, hit customize, then disable the Verizon Wireless preset contacts.

Via doogald on XDA. I don't have my Maxx yet so can someone confirm this works?

I changed the leading "#" to "Z " and saved them. They are WAY out of the way and if for some strange reason I need them in the future I know where to find them.

Touchless Control is fascinating but still has a few wrinkles to iron out.

I originally had it setup with Call while locked checked. It puts out a warning message that others may make calls through your phone that you are not aware of.

Over five days three calls were made that I was not aware of and they were probably made as the result of someone saying something on the TV.

Of course one of them was to someone I REALLY don't want to talk to.

I turned Call when locked off and have had no unknown calls since then.

Bwahahahahaa! Verizon has a good sense of humor.

I know this is old, but I found it funny because I ordered my MAXX last night (through Comcast via phone) and the rep asked me if I was aware of the $30 activation fee. I said, "Yes, but if I wasn't aware of it, would you waive it?" He said no, but paying it does provide us with things such as the ability to talk to a store rep to get training on our device. I had to refrain myself from bursting out in laughter at that comment.

The meenova Mini Micro Card SD Reader works well with the Droid Maxx. To test I pulled the SD-Ext card from my deactivated Droid Bionic and read it direct on the Droid Maxx.

When initially plugged in the (blue) lights blink for a while as it is recognized by the system and then the lights are on steady.

The sound files and video files are integrated into the various tables when the lights stop blinking.

It comes with a micro to standard USB adapter but no cover is provided for the standard USB plug. There is a cover for the micro plug on the reader.

Support for these devices was returned in 4.4.4.

When I got the Droid Maxx I could not believe how fast it would power on. It was simply astonishing.

Today I took some measurements that I find very interesting ...

Droid X - 3m 50s
Droid Bionic - 2m 12s
Droid Maxx - 31s

... Thom

I have the meenova and also the leefbridge memory add on. Both work great for me also. I agree on the speed of the boot on the Maxx. In fact I find almost everything about this phone amazing, even coming from the DX and Bionic like you. What I cannot understand is why people are not climbing over each other to get this phone. IMHO it is the best out there by far.

This procedure removes temporary files does not delete any files or settings ...

With Maxx powered off
Press Volume Down and Power for 2-3 seconds and release

Display -- AP Fastboot Flash Mode
Press Volume Down to select Recovery
Press Volume Up to select

Display -- Motorola logo and then Exclamation mark logo
Press Volume Up for 10-15 seconds
While still holding Volume Up press Power and release both

Display -- Android System Recovery
Press Volume Down four times to select Wipe cache partition
Press Power to select

Maxx will perform the cache partition wipe and then boot normally.

Under 4.4.4 this will take from 4.5min to 6.5min to complete.

If your Droid Maxx is registered with Google you can use ... Android Device Manager ... to locate it.

ADM can send a signal to your phone and it will ring for up to five minutes or to when the power button is pressed.

If GPS is enabled on your phone the ADM webpage will show you where the phone is located.

If you have it pre enabled you can have ADM request your phone perform a Factory Data Reset. To pre-enable the Droid Maxx go to Settings | Security & Screen Lock | Device Administration and make sure Android Device Manager is checked.

Just a quick note that there was an update to play services during this first week of November 2013. The update to Play Services disabled "Android device manager" from Device Administrators, even if you had already manually set it. If you are depending on this service, please go into Settings->Security & Screen Lock -> Device administration and make sure that Android Device Manager is checked.

Support for USB devices was returned in 4.4.4. You can now plug a memory stick into an adapter cable and have it accessible for read/writes from your phone. You can also use an external adapter to support read/writes to a SD memory card plugged into it.

You should not simply plug the external device in and unplug it when done. Instead ... go to ... Settings | Storage | USB DISK STORAGE/USBDISK

Use the Mount USB Disk when connecting the external device.
When done use Unmount USB Disk and when it completes disconnect.

(Obviously they are not disks.)

If you try to record a video using the camera app and receive a message that says that media cannot be captured, this is due to a recent update to the Google Search/Now app and because you have enabled "Ok Google" hotword detection on the Google Search/Google Now app. This is not to be confused with Touchless Controls on the Maxx - that continues to work fine and does not interfere with recording video.

What is happening is that the Google Search app is holding the microphone open and is not allowing the camera app to use it.

To re-enable video recording, go to the "Google" app in the app drawer, touch the three dot menu control in the bottom right, choose "Settings", "Voice", "OK Google detection", and turn off the option "From any screen" and "From lock screen".
