and i am not talking about the 1-2 second wake time i see mentioned elsewhere online, talking 5-6 seconds. Had my galaxy note 3 for a week, and about 2 days in it started lagging to wake up and has progressively gotten worse.

When i get a text, i hear it beep, i look at the phone and have to wait 5-6 seconds before the screen lights up and shows the notification. If i pick my phone up and hit the button, I have literally counted to 5-6 before it come to life. Very annoying when you are trying to take a photo of something, or have to look something up.

I have turned off all animations, disabled SVoice, no help.. (i just hit it and counted 'one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, four thousand, five... and it came on).

Plus if you hit power button 2x, it will wait 5 seconds, and then come on, and immediately turn off. when i hit power again, it will come on within a second.

Anyone else having this issue? its rather annoying.

- no hacks, no roms, nothing special, very few apps.

I think the lock/wake screen has some issues.

Here is what I've noticed.
If you have "password" as your security option - when the keyboard pops up - a scroll bar briefly appears.

If your home and lock screen wallpapers are different - you can see both of them at the same time - lock on the top half / home on the bottom half as the keyboard for the password appears and reappears.

I password protect mine, wake time is just under one second after I've entered the password. I've been enjoying good consistency and no time consuming lags at any point. If this continues I'll be very pleased. Mine is and will remain box stock for the first few months to allow time for testing and building a track record of reliability. So far I'm very encouraged.

My note 3 has had the same problem --between 5-7 seconds to wake up every time; it was driving me crazy. I called att and their tech support had never heard of the problem. So they connected me with Samsung tech support and the agent had not heard of the problem either. He spoke to a supervisor and came back and then acknowledged this is a known problem at Samsung but there is currently no fix for it. Perhaps a future update but no promises. Basically, they told me I had to live with it. I've tried every possible software solution (except rooting the phone) --turning off all transitions, etc... nothing worked. Then I remembered it didn't seem to have the problem the first time I turned it on when unboxing; so I popped off the back cover and pulled my micro sd and IMMEDIATELY it started turning on quickly again. The problem was my sd card. It is a Lexar 600x 32gb (the fastest one I could find on the market). While the card does work, for some reason my phone doesn't seem to access it well (I had even reformatted it within the phone). I went to Best Buy and bought a Sandisk Ultra 32gb and it works perfectly --no lag; problem solved.

This worked! I've tried everything people suggested but nothing seemed to work. I was about to give up and return it. Thank u for this!

No where is it published that Android ver 4.3 is instant on. It's a great idea to learn how Android functions before making comparisons or assumptions that you have a problem. Android smartphones are fully functional computers, which as such require time to execute the boot and or wake process.

I find my Note 3's performance to be exemplary.

Yes, and two different users above also found their phones' performance to be exemplary after they replaced apparently defective or incompatible memory cards.

Read more and patronize less. ;)

I had same problem until today since I got note 3. I call att, android and finally samsung but they dont have solution n then I took the extra memory sd card out n problem is solve.

After 4.4 update, my phone is terribly facing wake up lag. I formatted more than thrice and still facing it. Soon after format phone works good for a day or two. Then this chap starts again. Good some has 3 seconds wake up lag. Mine is more than 30 seconds, and sometimes never shows. I have to keep pressing the power button to restart it. I have pin protected due to corporate email. Never had these issues in any of my previous versions of Note and also S series.

Is this something Samsung will looks into and fix. I'm finding it very difficult since when someone calls, I can't even accept call since its black. Help much appreciated.

There is a small 'stability' update after the 4.4 (kitkat) update which is around 28mb in size, I had mine last week over a month after I updated my phone to Kitkat, this small update is also meant to fix the problem some people were having with 3rd party S View cased etc.
I have noticed improved battery life after this small update but as I didn't have any issues before, then I can't say if it will fix your lag issues.
