I take no credit for these builds and ROMs, I've simply modified slightly to allow flashing on our device.

I'm running the Slim Bean Rom right now with the kt747 kernel found in this thread here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946

along with an app called Greenify and my phone is getting SICK battery life, been up for 2 hours and only 8% lost with 22 minutes of screen time.

Yesterday I got 4 hours of on screen time in a full charge.

There is a specific setup I have in the ktweaker app if you're curious I'd share.

I tried porting the 4.3 slim bean ROM and it didn't work, with clockworkmod recovery saying: Installation aborted. I also noticed that there were no assert lines to be deleted.

I am currently running slimbean 4.3, there's no porting to be done. I would use twrp instead of cwm honestly, you will run into less problems.

Here is the twrp recovery I'm using, flash it in cwm then reboot recovery. It is 100% working.

http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254551

Download slimbean 4.3 from the slimroms website. It is for att/T-Mobile/metro, and is compatible with t999l and t999n.

http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/408-d2att-d2tmo

Don't be alarmed that the ROM file name says d2att. The same ROM that's used for att is also used for T-Mobile (d2tmo/t999l) and our phone (T999n).

Download the 4.3 slimbean gapps.

http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/383-addons/downloads/dlsearch

Put the ROM and gapps on external SD.

I'm sure you know how to flash a ROM, but wipe the device (system, cache, dalvik yadda yadda). I like to also format the data partition before installing (this is why you put the ROM and gapps on external SD, so they won't be deleted when wiping)

Flash the ROM and gapps, reboot. Change the APNs to reflect metros, you can delete all of the extra apns that come with slim bean. If you don't know how to do this let me know and I'll assist.

The ROM works great, currently running it with ktoonsez kt747 kernel. Snappy and smooth.

BTW, follow the same steps to install pretty much any ROM made for T-Mobile's s3 (t999 and t999l) they work fine.

If you get lost let me know.

Thanks a lot for your help. I installed the ROM and recovery, and everything is working fine except I can't seem to get root access, at least not for any apps, because the performance option in the settings seems to work.

You have root, it's just disabled, the ability to enable and disable root access was put in as an added security feature. Enable developer options by going to setting -> about phone and tapping the build number entry 5 times (maybe 6 I don't recall).

Go into dev options and change root access to apps or apps and adb, you will have all your root options after.

Glad help, have fun!

Thanks again. I now have root access on the ROM. The only thing I find odd is that everything seems zoomed out and tiny. But othrer than that everything is fine.

Yep, like rxpert said, you can change it in the settings. By default slim bean has the LCD density set at 245. The stock (fresh out the box touchwiz) density is 320. You can mess with the density until you get it where you want it by going to settings -> interface and changing the density [first option in the list].

Just know that some density settings will cause compatibility issues with some apps. I like it at 245, no compatibility issues and it gives a lot of extra screen real estate. Put it at 320 if you want everything to be the normal size that it was when you bought the phone.

I forgot to say that the kernel doesn't work. It bootloops when I install it.

It works perfect for me, so does lean kernel. I'll upload KT747 to dropbox and link it shortly.

Edit:

Here is the kt747 kernel.

https://db.tt/Ud4Zriku

After you flash the kernel make sure you wipe dalvik/cache then under the advanced tab fix permissions in twrp before you reboot.

Tried both kernels and kt474 bootloops while lean bean boots into a weird mixed up colorful android.
