Unlimited Data ---> 6GB for the same price

So my friend just ditched his Galaxy Nexus and unlimited data for a 5S (eye roll). I asked him how he could possibly justify giving up unlimited for 2GB at the same price and he told me that since he was a Verizon customer for over 5 years he can get 6GB for the same price he was paying.

I barely ever crack 2GB's, so if I can get 6 for the same price it might be worth it for a phone upgrade. Has anyone else come across this "customer loyalty" deal?

I did a chat yesterday and the lady told me you can upgrade to the 6gb plan without doing the edge plan

If that's the case and 6GB is the same price I'd imagine some people would get a discount with a phone upgrade.

Unlimited has it's benefits for high data users, but 6GB is enough for many people. As with other things, it depends on your usage.

I currently have the SEP with 2gb of data, and haven't went over since the wife doesn't care about data and hardly use it. I do keep an eye out to make sure not to go over. I use wifi as much as possible also.

Now my contract is up in Dec. and I'm thinking of dumping Vzw, but if they would give me an upgrade phone with 6gb of data for the 2gb price, I may be willing to stay.

I say this because Vzw changed from the old plans to the new SEP, I lost 2gb of data. With the old plan, I had 450 mins talk, no text plan and 4gb of data for $20. When they forced us to switch I ended up getting 2gb of data for $30.

Go figure!

Just did an online chat myself and "Rachel C" said not without the Edge program can you do this. :-(

Quick update. My wife's contract officially expired yesterday. I called the Verizon support number and the gal straight up offered the 6 gb Max plan to us without even mentioning the Edge plan. Since she rarely cracks even 2 gb, we took this plan along with the $49 Moto X on a new two year contract. Same minutes and text that she had before. Same price. We lost unlimited but having a subsidized phone every two years again was worth it for her usage.

I was offered the 6gb a couple of days ago. At first I thought it might not be a bad idea. I average 3 ti 3.5 gb a month. Then I got really pissed of at verizon for not letting me upgrade and keep my unlimited plan. I did not accept there 6gb upgrade. So I sent in a complaint to the FCC which said:
" I currently have the 900 minute talk and unlimited data plan. When I started my service, the company allowed phone upgrades while maintaining my current plan. Now, over 2

Hi B4.. I live near Buck's County (near-ish)... unfortunately, VZW is perfectly within their rights to terminate a plan. They could remove all of our grandfathered plans and force us into any kind of plan they us to be in. It's their network. Their rules.

You see, if you want to keep your plan and get a new phone, you have the right to pay for it outright. If they subsidize the purchase of your new phone, they make the contract. Those are the rules. Your ultimate choice is to leave VZW for another carrier. They are trying to keep us unlimited data subscribers, so they don't remove the plan totally. It stinks, but it's their network.

I'm near the end of a 2yr 1400 min. Nationwide Share plan with Unlimited data and I did two eligible upgrades on my account yesterday and got the 6GB deal on both lines. The thing that is nice about this is that each line gets 6GB. Not shared. The only downside is that you cannot tether this data. I asked how long this promotion will last since my other line is eligible for an upgrade in January. The CSR said that the expiration date said "to be determined".

I just received a flyer in the mail offering an early upgrade to the Edge 6GB plan if I trade in a working phone in good condition. My current plan runs until next July so this would be a very early upgrade.

I'll have to go back and read the fine print. I'm not sure if this includes a subsidized phone or not. Tempting since the GPS takes forever to lock on with my S3. I have a Droid RAZR that I could activate and trade in then sell the S3.

I have been with Verizon for years. I took the 6GB plan (for many reasons) and got an LG G3 at Best Buy. The strange thing is when I log in to Verizon it shows my contact as month to month and that I can upgrade now! I have had the phone for over a week and nothing has changed. I think the Best Buy rep set it up incorrectly.

Can someone confirm that once you upgrade the dates should change right away? I think Best Buy may have given me an early Christmas present.

Thanks,
JJ

You're doing Verizon Edge or other?

You're doing Verizon Edge or other?

Both Verizon reps told me this is not part of verizon edge program and so did the Best Buy rep. When I look at my plan online there is no mention of Edge at all and I got the phone for $99 and two year contract.

The other confusing thing is that my contact is extended if I view the Best Buy contact but Verizon is showing me as not in a contract. The only thing I can figure is I had originally purchased the phone outright and then returned it for this plan. It's possible the Best Buy agent messed up doing the return and repurchase for contract price.

I think I am going to have to wait out a billing cycle. I was originally posting this hoping someone who is on Edge could let me know if Edge is called out anywhere on their bill/plan as mine does not.
