Help Gallery and viewing folders across a network

I have an HTC One S phone.
When I go to Gallery App I get options like MyPhone, DropBox, Picasa, Flickr, SkyDrive, etc..
I can also access Media Servers.
Using the Media Server option it easily finds my home PC and I can then (reasonably quickly) drill down to the folder on my PC containing the pictures I want to view.
The HTC shows the thumbnails of the all pictures in that particular folder.
I then just choose one, it becomes full screen, and I just swipe to the next as normal.
Easy.
No problem with this.

I also have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
When I go to it's Gallery App it looks different.
Only photos on the Tablet and Picasa stuff are shown, nothing else, no other options.
There is an option to Scan for Nearby Devices and it does find my home PC.
However, when I choose it, all it shows are ALL the pictures on the PC at once (I've got thousands). It doesn't show any of the folder tree, even though all my pictures are in folders & sub folders. I do not want to scroll though thousands of pictures hoping to come across the ones I want to view.
I can't find any way to now drill down to the folder on the PC that contains the pictures I want to view, like I could easliy do on the HTC.
The gallery on the HTC is so much better than the one on the Samsung.

Clearly what I want can be done on Android as HTC are able to do it.

Is there some way I can download the HTC Gallery App to the Samsung Note.
Or is there another App I could use.
I've tried things like QuickPic, F-Stop, which do show folder trees but they don't seem to give any option to view photos across a network.

I've tried using a couple of file manager apps (like ES Explorer).
Now they can drill down to the folder.
I then choose a photo, but it take ages to view the pictures... and then I can't swipe to the next one.

Any suggestions please.
