Root [Sprint] [SPRINT][GUIDE][BASIC][WIP] Rooting for Newbies!

Are there issues with battery performance after root? Everything seems good and I froze most of the bloatware using Ti-Backup, but battery life seems to be suffering big time, 25-30% off from stock unrooted and that may be conservative. I did not root paticularly to save battery life, but one would think it would improve, but certainly not get worse? Is there something I may be missing that may be a drain on the battery?
What do I need to be particularly careful of un-rooting with OUDHS procedure?
Thanks

I rooted recently and it's been working really well with Titanium backup deleting bloatware and Greenify hibernating many others. I have a second Victory here that's not rooted and it definitely drains down faster than the rooted/debloated/Greenified one.

Are you using Better Battery Stats to see if anything is causing wakeups?

Hi All,
I recently received Samsung Galaxy Victory Pay As You Go phone. Unfortunately, I'm not able to make any international calls & it says my account is not authorized to make such calls: message 4, switch 386. Is there any firmware or utility that will unblock this international calling? I called Sprint but they said that they cannot do anything since I'm no longer their subscriber. And I'm on Ringplus service which cannot do anything on this issue as they said that its Sprint that is blocking this calling. Any help or suggestions on this issue?? Thanks in Advance!!

I have the latest bootloader version MC1...for me to flash the 9/17 build of CM10.2, need a downgraded bootloader since the update binary is looking for the original LH1, the JB LJ9 or the VM MG5.

Unless someone can tell me that I can flash the MC1 to MG5 zip...need a downgraded bootloader and instructions on how to flash it.

I dont think there is apps that can break your carriers calling plan. The issue your having is from your carrier. You might find an app that lets you call internationally but they might cost or not work. Did you flash a different modem? I would think thats why sprint said your no longer there subscriber, hmmmm

I'm on Sprint and I've actually used it before. The only negative is you'll only get 3G. Some people dont mind that but it's a must have for me. If you decide to try it made sure to make a full backup then format data aka erase everything. Then flash the full 9.0 and then 9.3.

Just 3G? That's a no-go then. Now that I have gotten a good taste of the high-speed life (although that might come crashing to a halt by Wednesday. Sprint won't allow a payment delay for As You Go customers), I can only tolerate 3G eHRPD data in small doses.

What do you mean by different modem? I only rooted the phone, I haven't done the custom ROM, etc. And before rooting also, I was not able to make any international calls.

Sprint is not ready to help at all!

Any suggestions/help?

Thank you for the instructions. I followed them exactly as written, but when I get to the step where you have to install busybox, I'm getting a failure:

TWRP says:
Verifying zip signature...
E:Zip signature verification failed: 1
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/busybox_v1.20.2-CWM+
Updating parition details....

I've tried redownloading the zip file and recopying it to my device, but that didn't help. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

At step 9, I am not able to find "Install in your custom recovery (TWRP)". There is a menu item called "apply update from external storage". I tried that and got "Signature verification failed" for both zip files.

(BTW the current download file for SuperSU is UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip)

Below is the output for Odin. Do I miss anything? why cannot I see TWRP at step 9?

If I'm bringing my phone in to support (going to see if they can do something about the earpiece volume bug), should I replace TWRP with the stock one? Or will they not really care?

You might want to put the stock one just in case they use it to install a stock update zip or something. The worst that can happen is they notice it's not stock, and may not offer support.

Does anything change with the latest Ota update? I'm being nnagged to update, but it won't work because of my custom recovery. I want to keep root for many reasons, the least of which is to keep links2sd support. Updating will likely break root.

I'm rather annoyed that there is an update waiting for me which I can't use. What's the best way to update and yet keep root?
