Google's Nexus 5 won't come to Verizon, but 'a set of projects for 2014' will

My guess is the set projects for 2014 is a Verizon only phone, and maybe a tablet.

Does anyone know why Verizon is the only main carrier without the Nexus 5? I read several articles and none explained the reason, just that Verizon would not have it.

It's because Verizon requires unilateral control over any device they can get their hands on. If they can't get that, the refuse to certify it for usage. Google doesn't want to give up control after seeing Verizon bastardize the Galaxy Nexus. Then Verizon didn't exactly help mend the relationship by refusing to activate the LTE Nexus 7 on new SIM cards even though they are required to by federal regulations. We're still waiting for the FCC to take action on that.

I'm sure any projects slated for 2014 on Verizon with have any combination of the following:
1 massive bloatware and performance robbing "patches"
2 a price tag way above it's competitors
3 a locked boot loader
4 3 delays on the release date reaching well into the 3rd quarter of 2014
5 updates that are up to 3 months behind everyone else's
6 no Google wallet
7 Verizon's logo in at least 3 places on the device, you know, so others won't mistake your device as the latest and greatest.

I'm pretty bummed myself. I was so stoked to finally get on verizon for signal and LTE speed, and I've got three devices on here now, but no Nexus. Close as I can get is an S4 gp edition for a small fortune, I've already got a regular s3 and s4. I think my wifes iphone is up for an upgrade pretty soon but I'm not even that interested after this.
Blah..

You can't even get a GPE S4 on Verizon....

Moto X dev edition is the closest thing to a nexus phone on Verizon, only $650

I left Verizon for the Nexus 5 on The T Mobile network and I could not be happier. I was with Verizon for about 15 years and on the unlimited plan.
My bill went from $90 to $30 a month.:):):)

A lot of people in my area have been switching away from verizon as well. Mostly to iwireless and T-Mobile. I'm waiting for my nexus 5 to arrive to see what gsm carrier has a signal out here and they will get my business. There's a little shadenfreude here, as I watch Verizon's business practices come full circle.
If iwireless is good enough I'll save $500 on replacing two phones because verizon wants their unlimited data back and another $50 a month while gaining SMS and unlimited minutes. That's $1700 over two years!
