Would you buy a used Nexus 7?

A friend of mine is selling his for $100, and i'm sort of tempted to buy it, but I don't know. How is the 2012 Nexus 7?

I was looking to get the 2013 model for my wife as a Christmas present, but I managed to get an unopened 2012 model for £149. I have had one since launch and I cannot fault it. I can't justify upgrading for the slight (to me) improvements over the original. I have had no problems with it and we get Kitkat 4.4 in a few weeks.

If you're buying from a friend I'd say go ahead, it's a great tablet. Bargain at $100 if it hasn't been abused.

Of course buying used and unseen from an unknown source is a completely different matter...

I'd be careful about it. There were a lot of production issues in the first few runs and that could be why someone would be interested in selling. I'd give it a good look over and ask your mate about it. Surely if it's a good mate though you can trust him/her.

If you're comfortable asking to check it out first though check for screen lift, check the battery graph and make sure other things such as the lock/power button and volume buttons are working. Also request the OEM charger and USB cord as you'll have troubles trying to charge with anything else. I can only get trickle charging from different samsung and generic USB chargers.

I would't pay that for an 8. But if it's a 16 or 32, I'd certainly buy it unless it's messed up. - sheureka

Someone nailed the answer, if it is only an 8GB, it isn't worth it. A 16GB would be worth it. I wouldn't have upgraded to the 2013 version if 2012 one didn't have a smashed screen.

I'm still happily using my 2012 with 16 but 16 is cramped. I can't imagine what 8 feels like. $100 is a good price for a 16 and I'd buy one if I needed one and was short on cash.

Both my Samsungs have sdcard slots, which is nice. I like to have at least 32 gb total, otherwise I run out of space eventually.

Just bought from a dealer with 14 days warranty. I appreciate the ideas for checking it out noted above,. Are there any other things I should look at? Should I buy the Squaretrade 2 yr warranty for $20?

I like my Nexus 7, but I'd buy the Hisense Sero Pro from Walmart for $129. Comes with an HDMI out.

I own the 32GB N7 since more than 1 year. It is a great toy - but not a PC. If you know it's limitations, you can do a lot of things with it and some you cannot do with a PC - e.g. navigation.

I added a nifty Motorola bluetooth keyboard with trackpad. We use it during travel for all our IT needs.

For $100 it is a good deal if it has at least 16GB and is in good shape. But then you may want to compare with this:
