Fast LTE, then slow, during same download?

So I have talked to 2 different tech-support people, who “refreshed” my network connection in order to help, and no dice.

When I download something, it starts off as super fast, then it slows down to where it is literally a few kb at a time.

For example, I’m downloading something right now from the Play Store that is 107mb in size. It will download the first 10mb in less than 2 seconds, and now it’s been incrementally downloading since then. It’s at 14mb after about 15 minutes.

This happens consistently, no matter what rom I’m on or what the source/website is.

Also, whenever I tether, the speed is VERY slow. Like I can’t even open a web page on the tablet I’m tethering to.

I’m on unlimited high speed data with 2.5GB of tethering. The signal in my area is excellent. I have 5 bars of LTE, and speedtest.net tells me I’m up to 30mbps.

Anyone else running into this issue?

Many of us are experiencing this nationwide. Changing my SIM did not help. T-Mobile store employees say it's normal behavior.

Lets be consistent. What can we all download and is there an app to watch the bandwidth graph?

For those seeing the "throttling", it typically happens when you use a large amount of data, such as streaming video. For some people, just using the Speedtest.net app is enough to cause the throttling. This is a good example of how bad it can be:

In this case the first 5 seconds, or so, of the speed test was over 20 Mbps, then from the download graph you can see the speed just crashed, and was much slower for the rest of the test. Subsequent tests would typically be even slower, because they don't have the fast speed at the start of the test.

It seem to be happening to only some users, and may not even be consistent in a given market. Usage doesn't seem to matter (it appears to be effecting some customers that use very little data), nor does data plan (some $70 unlimited plan customers report the issue).

Definitely a strange (and somewhat interesting) issue.

i stream video a lot and am running into this issue a lot. i using this time to test the t-mobile network but this issue is seriously making me consider switching back to verizon.

This does seem like an issue that T-Mobile needs to quickly fix. I suspect that many of those having this issue are going to strongly consider switching carriers. And this is a time when the no contract plans could really hurt T-Mobile -- especially as people testing the network (like you) will likely not come back soon.

John Legere, the T-Mobile CEO, tweeted this afternoon, "Very small # customers saw slower data recently and only when downloading very large files. Minor software issue; Fix going in place today"

Hopefully this will fix the problem we've been seeing.

Let's hope. I haven't seen any changes yet.

Everything I'm seeing from people online, who complained about it before, are now saying it is fixed.
