Straight Talk Nexus 5 Usage

My N5 is working on LTE in Salt Lake City right now. My APN settings are as follows:

Name: Straight Talk
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-cf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80

Getting those out of the ST phone support was like pulling teeth - I practically had to explain the concept of APN settings

Doing anything over the phone with Straight Talk is like a root canal.

I've not experienced bad or spotty data connection. I live about half hour south of Birmingham, AL and get solid LTE at home and work. I never use much more than 1 or 2GB's a month so haven't ever been throttled but I imagine that would be painful if you plan on trying to tether or just stream YouTube out Hulu a lot. Good luck!

Don't ever tether on ST! I got away with it for a month but the next month they didn't throttle me they CUT my data off completely after 2 days/1.5GB. The rest if the month royally sucked...

I switched from Verizon to Straight Talk to use the Nexus 5 with an AT&T SIM and so far I have been very pleased. They gave me a hard time about porting my number since the area code of my old number didn't match my current address, but being on the phone with them was so bad I didn't try very hard to keep it, so I just got a new number (root canal analogy is putting it mildly).

Coverage in my area (Carrboro, NC) with the AT&T SIM is excellent, voice quality is great. I'm not a heavy data user so I'm not worried about hitting the cap, but mobile data seems faster to me compared with what I was getting with Verizon (could be the new phone though)

I got my N5 this morning and activated new service with Straight Talk. Ported my number from Verizon, and I am getting LTE. I went to apn.straighttalkbyop.com and put in my phone and zip code (I had to select Nexus 4 if I remember correctly, since Nexus 5 wasn't an option). I entered what came up, powered the phone off and back on, and had LTE.

I've seen it switch between LTE and HSPA a couple times, but my speedtest on LTE pulled down 16-17 mbs and up was about 6.

I did have problems activating though. I entered everything on the website, and I got an error message saying the card I entered for my first month of service had already been used. Had to call customer service, and had a hard time understanding the gal I was talking to. I clled back to be sure there was indeed a month of service on my account, and the second rep confirmed there was. While I was on the phone with rep #2 my old phone quit working and my port was complete (took about 30 minutes to port from Verizon). Entered the apn info, and all has been well.

Hello. I'm a little confused...did you order the micro sim that is "supposedly for 'ATT compatible phone'?"

Cause on ST's website, there is a micro sim for ATT or T-Mobile (unlocked) compatible...
