The Moto Maker Club!

Running naked with black weave, black front, red accent 32G... ordered mine the day the price dropped for AT&T. Moto maker worked very well from the AT&T site. Delivered 2 days faster then they said it would! Love the feel of it in hand and the comments from other phone owners just from first look are remarkable!

Yeah, even with the 2gb plan, I'd pay $18/month more than I pay now. $18 * 24 = $432, which is the full price of a smartphone.

It's no benefit for me, since the costs are a wash while I get nothing out of it that I'll actually use, and for that I give up unlimited data and lock myself into a 2 year contract.

I wasn't talking about a 2gb shared plan. You can keep the exact family plan you have now, but downgrade to 2gb per line and get the subsidy, paying the exact same amount you do now. ($30 per line)

If you think you'll use more than 2gb it's probably not worth it. But if you always stay under it will save you $400+.

There are only two types of plans available on Verizon's website that I can see - Share Everything, and Pre-paid.

In any event, I don't pay $30 for the second line. I pay $9.99 for the line access charge on a dumbphone, which is what throws a wrench in most plans that I look at.

This thread needs to be full of more REAL pictures of the phones you guys have! It would be nice to see some of the creations in the wild.

If anyone is going to buy a moto x, and is going to get a all black, woven, 16GB phone... and not do moto maker...lets talk about a trade. :)

Seriously! Come on guys, stop being lazy and get some pics out there with your actual Moto X :p.

I know it's very helpful to those on the fence for certain color combinations.

WARNING! Rant ahead!

Okay folks, we finally got the Darling Bride's Moto X in and I was GOING to take pics of it... but fate had other plans. I took a picture of... well, you'll see.

Got it off the FedEx truck yesterday evening, and the first problem reared its ugly head: I was going to swap out the SIM from the Galaxy S3 and stick it in the Moto X so she could rock on. WRONG! The S3 has a microSIM... the X has a nanoSIM! So THAT wasn't happening! No problem, thinks me...

I spent about 2 hours setting it up and getting her accounts and homescreens set up for her (she's technologically impaired). In retrospect, I will never do that again: not until connectivity is established.

I called Verizon and told them we just purchased a Moto X from the Moto Maker website and needed it activated on her line in place of the S3. No problem, says the agent. "Just let me cut everything over... okay, I need you to power off the Moto X, remove the SIM card, wait 15 seconds, reinsert it and turn it back on. I will call you back on that line in 5 minutes to make sure everything works."

I never got the call. In fact, I never got the SIM reinserted. You know why?

THE SIM DRAWER BROKE!

MotoXSIMdrawer.jpg

The slide actually separated from the drawer face where you put the extractor pin! There was no way this thing was going back in and if it ever did, it was never going to come out again!

I had exactly ONE HOUR before the Verizon corporate store closed last night: so I drove 15 miles to the store, little parts in a ziplock bag, to get a replacement SIM drawer off a returned Moto X or whatever. You know what they said?

"Sorry, but if you didn't buy the phone from Verizon we can't replace any parts. You'll have to call Motorola." And they handed me Moto's number.

<---- Steaming at this point

I started the drive home and called Motorola. Explained the problem to them, and they said that the part wasn't available and would have to be back-ordered. No way, says me. I have a limited return window here, and I'm not blowing it on a back-ordered 25-cent part. I was near apoplectic at this point. 15 miles BACK home.

So this morning I called Motorola AGAIN, and explained that the phone had arrived with a defective SIM drawer that snapped the first time I extracted it. Probably a bad crimp job somewhere deep in Asia. THANKFULLY I got a rather sympathetic agent who issued an RMA and e-mailed me a shipping label. I factory reset her phone, thereby wiping out all that work I did last night before finding the problem, and boxed it up & headed for the FedEx drop box.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Short story is that her brand new Moto X is now headed back to Fort Worth. Upon receipt, Moto is supposed to e-mail me a code good for a duplicate phone on Moto Maker... so we'll design the exact same phone and try this again next week

/rant

Sorry folks, I just had to get that off my chest before my heart blew through my shirt. Hopefully the NEXT phone will be the LAST one we need to order.

So are you guys finding that you get your phone on, before, or after your estimated delivery date?

My original delivery date was supposed to be today. But it got shipped last evening and won't get here until tomorrow (according to FedEx tracking details). But I ordered on Friday, so I thought that Tuesday was a little fast to begin with.

Good to know. I ordered mine on Saturday and my estimated delivery date is Friday... might come a day early if they keep up what they did with yours.

OK here are some pictures of my black/red Moto X. I added my Gnex and Droid Incredible for reference. Sorry for the bad pictures, notice how the ones taken with the Incredible are better than the ones with the gnex?

Placed my order yesterday, should be here by Friday. Black weave, black front, metallic blue accents. Loved this color combination since the first time I saw the Phantom Regiment perform (how many band nerds know what I'm talking about?).

I'll be obsessively checking shipping info all week until it arrives.

Sent from my VZW SGS3 rockin' Jelly 'Beans' Build 17 using Tapatalk 2

This is the exact combo I was going to do if I built one. Instead I just have standard black. Yours looks great.

Once I got the PIN and went to the website I had a heck of a time processing the order. I was trying to do this through internet explorer instead of my chrome browser. I tried using ie instead of chrome as I was signed into my personal gmail account in ie and a work gmail based account on chrome. When I selected the option to have the google account already setup on the phone it would try to default to the work based account instead of the personal one, which I didn't want. Once I got the associated email address sorted out and used chrome to process the order it worked just fine.

Now the waiting game starts.
How long after you placed the order did it take to get the email with the pin? I'm on a business account as well and ordered this morning, but my rep isn't sure about how the process works.

Well, here goes TAKE 2!

Sent the bad Moto X back, they got it today and gave me a PIN for another one. Ordered the new one for the Darling Bride:

It should be here Monday... hopefully activation will be smooth and relatively painless :)

Sorry to hear about that mishap! Good thing Motorola is taking care of you. I just so happen to have ordered that same exact phone style to replace my Cherry Red one I ordered...Story below!

So, I have a new story to tell regarding my Moto X. It's a long one, but it may be worth listening to for those on the fence about the Sol Jax In-Ear headphones, Incase Pro Shell Case, and Cherry Red vs Crimson Red backs.

THE MOTO X DRAMA (CUS DRAMA SOUNDS BETTER THAN STORY ;))

There's nothing inherently wrong with the phone, and the only poor experience I've had thus far was dealing with Verizon's inept customer service reps in activating the phone.

Onto my issue, which most will probably attribute to my perfectionist OCD, lol.

With my phone, I ordered the Sol Jax In-ear headphones to match and an Incase Pro Shell Case to be able to show off the design. Well, the headphones work great, and to those worried about the mic, it works wonderfully according to the many people I have asked.

The problem is with my Pro Shell Case. Despite it being a solid case, I've taken serious issue with it. First, the back is easily scratched. Though this is something I should have expected considering the rather cheap clear plastic of the back.

That's not the whole extent of my issue. Just a little over a week after using the case with my phone, I noticed scratches on the back of the phone building up near the camera cut out of the case. This REALLY irked me.

A brand new custom ordered phone with a freakin' scratch already because of the case!? That's just counter-intuitive and ridiculous. Cases are suppose to protect, NOT damage, the phone...

I was pretty mad about the whole thing so I called up Motorola. Since I was still within the return period, I went ahead and ordered an advanced replacement phone with a new color scheme.

I decided to go with the design The_Chief's wife selected because the Cherry Red looks way too crayon-like in person. It just looks a bit too "young" for my purposes, so me being the red fanatic I am, chose Crimson instead.

Motorola threw in free Crimson headphones into the deal because they couldn't figure out how to process an exchange for my Cherry Red headphones. Not bad!

They also processed an RMA for the Pro Shell Case, so I'm just going to return that POS, and I settled on a black Incipio NGP case, assuming it will better protect my phone.

PHEW! I know that was a long one, but hopefully that helps someone out. Here's hoping the NGP case + new phone turn out okay!

If you're really curious about the shipment, I highly recommend calling Motorola's Moto X customer service. Same thing happened to my phone, and I was completely unaware when it shipped. When I called customer service they gave me the tracking number.

I actually never received an email saying it had shipped.

I got the email with the PIN withing a few hours of placing the order if I remember correctly. As your post was from a couple of days ago you have probably already built and ordered your phone.

I am curious... but I also hate waiting so I figured it was better not to know and hope to be surprised. I figured that when it hadn't arrived by Friday eve I would be waiting until Monday...
well spank my backside and call me cousin Eddie... got up this AM and had an email that it shipped last night at 9:23PM form Texas and was sent overnight priority-Saturday delivery.. sho-nuff, it arrived before noon in PA. Orange on Black.. I'm an alum of 2 schools with the colors orange and black so it's a combination I've grown fond of...
