Leaving Verizon For Nexus 5?

Just curious who is leaving Verizon for the Nexus 5 and where you're going.

My contract is up 12/15 after two years with the Galaxy Nexus. I'm going to Straight Talk AT&T $45 plan. I use around 1Gb data over the network and the rest over wi-fi so I think it will be a good fit for half of what I am paying now.

I bought the black 16Gb Nexus 5 from Google Play and Diztronic case on Amazon. I've had the Diztronic case on my Galaxy Nexus and love it.

Bottom line I can't see have any other than a Nexus even with the growing pains.

I'm in the process of leaving Verizon since my contract ends December 20th. I'm trying out T-Mobile with the Nexus 5 and will see how that works. Coverage at work is great but at home it stinks relative to Verizon. I just got a signal booster yesterday so we'll see how that works.

I'm surprised the T-Mobile coverage isn't that good in your home area. I've only really encountered bad signal on the far west side, though I admit I haven't tested the east side that much.

My friend got the T-Mobile booster signal at his house for the same reason, but they told him that it is meant to improve HSPA+ reception but not LTE.

Let us know how it works. I have better than Verizon coverage at my home and work but there are some dead spots on the highway that sometimes interrupts my music (luckily I got the 32GB so I have a bunch stored locally). I am wondering if I could install a signal booster within my car..

To my knowledge, signal boosters require active wifi.

What a coincidence, my Verizon contract is also up on 12/15 this year. I'll be going with T-Mobile's $50/month unlimited talk, text and data (4G capped at 250MB). I already ordered and received my Nexus 5 (last Wednesday), and I ordered the T-Mobile SIM card when they had their 99 cent sale so now it's just the waiting game. I went with the black 32GB Nexus 5 from Google Play (since my Galaxy Nexus was 32GB), and went with the Air Cushion Spigen case, but had to order a 3-pack of more screen protectors after messing up with the one included with the case.

I'm going to spend the next couple weeks playing around with it and making sure all the non-phone stuff works. I already unlocked, and rooted, and flashed the Cataclysm ROM, and I'll check all my games and apps to make sure they work well.

I know what you mean about not being able to get a non-Nexus.

Update: switched to T-Mobile on Sunday. Had to call in because as of Sunday, the Nexus 5 isn't a choice if you select the "bring your own phone" option. But the customer service guy was very helpful, and after reading another thread here I made sure to give him my Verizon account# in addition to the phone number. He told me it would take up to 24 hours for the number to port over and gave me a temp one in the meantime, but it switched over in about 3 hours. And when I signed into my Verizon account online it already had a note that my account was deactivated and any additional charges would be auto-paid (but there shouldn't be because my contract expiration and billing start date are the same). So far I have had good signal everywhere I've gone in the Los Angeles area, even in some spots where my Verizon 4G would drop out.
