4.3 update Discussion and issues HERE !!!

dont know if this would even be the right thread to post this... but... how do i get rid of the message notification across my screen when my phone is locked?? before i would get a nice looking circle with an envelope icon with it and a number of missed messages...nice and neat!.. nowww i get this giant banner saying Messaging and then who its from... i even went into messenger settings and removed the Preview Message toggle which says 'show a preview of received messages on the status bar and lock screen'... so while i liked that i could sort of scan thru the text on the status bar quickly before... now 1) u cant separate the two, ie if u remove notification from lock screen u remove it from status bar too... and 2) u still get a banner across ur screen that just says Messaging... how do i get rid of that? I dont want to turn off ALL my notifications!!

another thing i noticed... when i am on a call with someone... before i could pull down my notification bar and still text people, while caller is on speaker... now, the notification bar is frozen...

thanks for any help guys!!

Unfortunately, I have not found a way to disable that either. I think it's built-in.

On another note, I cannot get Samsung Video Hub to work. I've already did another hard reset and it still fails. It's constantly going into an update hub loop (with no updates present). Even installing Samsung Hub doesn't help. It fails to update the video and book hubs. In fact both show up as "-0MB/". Going to try wiping the cache in Android Recovery Console and see if that will clean it.

Also, Samsung decided to use a lot of light coloured themes. That's a bad choice for OLEDs considering bright/light colours use more power and drain battery more. Also hurts the eyes if in a partially lit/dark room. What were they thinking? I also don't like the adapt display. Colours are still saturated and switched back to movie mode with auto brightness and tone adjustment for a more natural balance.

NOT HAPPY!

If anyone really loves their Note 2 right now and think it's perfect... STAY AWAY FROM THIS UPDATE!

It's becoming more of a headache than what it's worth.

Well I am sure a lot of us will be happy that we were not the ones to try this out first, its a shame you guys had to find out the hard way!
Samsung skipped 4.2 and our phones came with 4.1, they have not given us one solid update since the launch of the Note 2 which was their flagship device after the s3, poor show!

You can always revert back to 4.1.2........... :)

I cannot for the life of me get Samsung Hub to work with Video or Books. Just contacted Samsung Help about it and see what they say. Looking at the reviews, it looks like it's an issue with some users (not just me).

And the contact icon images... Seriously??!!

Really wanted to give this a good shot, but I'm banging my head on this. It's really frustrating me! I really wished I didn't update to this POS.

I'll wait and see what Samsung says about this mess with the hub. I have ODIN and ROM at the ready for flash back. Hopefully (since it's an official ROM) it won't trip the flash counter. Otherwise I'll have to get triangle away... Great, this is just great...

Only issue I'm having is Amazon App Store won't load. Keeps telling me failed to authenticate account and just reloads that screen over and over.

it started immediately after the amazon update
Did you report it to Amazon? They'll probably fix it with another update. I don't use it, so don't know.

Samsung on the other hand might take forever to respond, much less fix it. I know they are migrating to the new Samsung hub, but not even testing it before pushing it out? This is extremely bad especially for users who actually use this. NONE of the purchases made in the video or book hubs will appear in your purchase list in the Samsung Hub or App store as it can't be updated and not linked to the account. Good thing I still have it functional on my Note 10.1. I'm currently downloading the files and pulling them off as a backup to see if I can stick them in the Note 2. Then test to see if it can acquire the licensing and play the files.

Personally, 4.3 is not for me. It took away things I really found useful. Samsung needs to bring back the S Pen functions in their default keyboard. This new one is just rubbish. I miss the swipe screen with secure lock as well. I also don't like the fact that they removed the function to change the 'Hi Galaxy' command in S Voice. Then there's other things that bother me like the light coloured themes, ugly notifications, kiddie icons (yeah, the newer icons are just... don't know what they were thinking) and ugly contact icons. It's like some other user pointed out, it looks like a Tab for kids now with all the silliness.

Still playing with it and starting to set up Nova launcher. I'll give it a fair shake of week working with it and see how it pans. Also to see if Samsung replies back about the Hub.

Edit: also noticed higher than usual RAM usage since the 4.3 update.

You can backup your external card. There's no harm in that and gives added piece of mind. More importantly that you backup any contents on the internal storage since that is where you will 100% lose your data if something does go wrong and a hard reset is required.

I use My Backup Pro to do backups of SMS, contacts and phone logs. I also use MyPhoneExplorer (on PC) to archive my SMS and phone logs.

I also use KIES to do backups of my internal storage. But it's slow at backing up.

Go into Android Recovery Console and do a cache wipe followed by 3 factory resets. Not sure if this would help, but maybe clean the update more thoroughly.

Edit: what's your RAM usage like? I noticed the 4.3 update chews up more RAM especially if left alone for a bit. Try to disable things you don't need or use in application manager.

Sprint Note 2 working fine before 4.3 update this morning. Now, despite being put in standby the screen continuously turns on and then off again every minute or so. After "cleaning" up the phone and turning off various apps that use notifications it continues to do so even in airplane mode. The only way to stop it is to boot the phone into safe mode. Don't want to do a factory reset as I have spent many hours organizing the apps and getting things "just right". Any ideas on fixes or rolling back to 4.1 without a reset? and then have to add each app one at a time till I find the culprit.... thanks .. I apologize if this is addressed somewhere else... new to the forum ... did a quick search and did not see it mentioned anywhere

You know, the same thing happened after upgrade to 4.1.2, battery life worsened :(

Personally, after every fresh reboot I have my own "clean up" routine which helps to reduce battery drain. First go to Task Manager (long press Home key), RAM tab and click on Clear Memory. Then, go to Settings -> Application Manger and slide to Running tab. Close all those google service and system processes. Whatever is necessary, will restart again. But a handful of processes never restart back, it doesn't affect performance of my phone, and actually improves my battery life. As soon as I reboot the phone (like when I'm going between stock and ZL battery), a handful of those parasite processes pop back up, and I just close them again.

Hi guys...so since the update these always sit in my update cue.... i don't know what these are...and i doubt they are of any use to me. There are no icons for them in my app manager so I can't seem to be able to disable them.... so how do I get rid of them or make them stop wanting to update??? See attached

Ps. Ignore the sound hound and hangouts ones... altho...how do I get rid of hangouts?? Never used it..

Pps. Why don't I have access to notification bar like I used to before when I am on the call??? Kinda like to multitask. ... talk to one person on speaker and text with another.... hrmmm

Thanks a ton!!
