Nexus 7 2013 HBO Go, Showtime, Netflix, CNN

Netflix updated a few days ago, with a proper android app now it seems like, and works 100% better. It's a significant step toward taking care of the very few issues I had with the N7.2.

Even my die-hard Mac loving wife adores it.

How about streaming from Amazon Prime Instant Videos? I use that service as well as Netflix and would like to know about the Amazon Prime before I go out and buy the N7.

I watch Amazon prime videos with my N-7. You just have to side load Flash from Adobe's site

Do you use the native Netflix app, or do you watch it in a browser, such as Firefox or Puffin?

I use the app and it seems to work fine. I think using a browser might be tougher due to plugin issues (either non-existent or outdated ones).

You'll probably want to hold off on taking the update to 4.4 when it becomes available because hbo go doesn't support 4.4 yet.

Did you get the OTA yet? I haven't seen it on either version of the N7

No, but I tried downloading it on the nexus 5 and it says it's not compatible. It could just be a device thing, but I'm betting it's 4.4 as a whole considering they did the same thing with 4.3.

Oh that's kind of shitty. So I won't be able to update at all? Or is there a way to just update to 4.3?

Also can people start updating on this thread when things are working again for the latest update?

I guess the best bet with android is to hold off on updating for as long as possible every time there is an update.

Most apps update quite quickly. Netflix & Hulu+ are fine, but others are just slow like HBO GO.

Well it came already running 4.3, so I'll just leave it there for a while. So far I've used HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, and CNN, all with no problems. I also watched some Daily Show on the Daily Show app and Marvel Agents of Sheild on the ABC TV app.

I'll try out some more tonight. So far I'm very happy with my Nexus 7!

HBO Go was updated to support KitKat today and now even supports chromecast.

I have Cox Cable (Cox Communications) and I have the Contour (Whole house DVR system) Cable box and there's an Android app for the Contour at:

That lets you watch your channels (most, but have to try all to include HBO, Cinemax and Starz which I have) on the N7 in high-def. Works great!!!

I did update and at this point HBO, Showtime, and Starz, are all working. Cinemax still hasn't updated.

The Cox Communications Contour cable box app for Android does not show premium movie channels, btw, since I tested it. Works great, even for high-def channels otherwise.

Well, I liked my Nexus 7 quite a bit, but took advantage of a slick deal and got an Ipad 4 for $230. Coincidental price, to be sure. Sold my Nexus 7 and am extremely happy with my new Ipad. Everything just works beautifully, 100%.

In conclusion, I found the Nexus 7 to quite good with an awesome screen. I had some success getting some of the video streaming apps to work, but continued to have trouble with CNN and Cinemax. Most apps are fine on the Nexus 7, but I did find quite a few of them look like crap due to being blown up cell phone apps instead of dedicated tablet apps.

I guess it just turns out I'm an apple guy, and I'll just have to live with it.
