Root [Virgin Mobile] [ROM][MK5][STOCK][ODEXED/DEODEXED]- Virgin Mobile/Boost Mobile

Hi
The only issue I had was SuperSU not sticking. I could not install PhilZ in CWM, so I installed PhilZ with Odin and then reflashed the SuperSU ZIP. Everything is fine now. Will use the ROM today and report any problems.
I had the same problem. Everything has been running well since then I did that Sunday.

I have a quick question, has anyone messed with the Min CPU settings? I noticed 1.2GHz was the minimum for 4.3, but back then in 4.1 the minimum was 1GHz but I was running at 384MHz and everything was fine. Now in 4.3 I guess 384MHz is too low since I have lag when I turn my screen on. So I was wondering if anyone has found a good acceptable minimum... Or does it even matter?

Also I want to take the time to give thanks to everyone that made 4.3 with root possible. I've been enjoying it the past few days with no problems to report!

The minimum is still 384MHz.

What are you using to monitor your clock speed? If you're using the Temp+CPU widget from the Play Store it is not functioning on Android 4.3 so the widget remains frozen.

Everyone I call is telling me that I sound broken. This is with the new radio, all directions followed to a T and Phil's recovery. Superuser SU working fine, root working fine. Good 4G service where I am currently as well.

I'm just curious if anyone has had similar issues, or if I should attempt to reinstall. (i'm on deodexed version atm)

Just so that I am totally, abundantly, 100%, crystal clear... this ROM will give me stock 4.3 with TouchWiz but without any of the knox nasty bits, correct?

I am currently on stock 4.1.2, rooted and with philz custom recovery. I never installed the OTA 4.3 update.

You are totally abundantly 100% correct :D

No knox apps or bootloader.

I just use No-frills. Running at 384MHz minimum, I got really slow wake ups, but after I switched to the stock/default 4.3 minimum of 1.242GHz I haven't gotten the slow screen on. It hasn't affected my battery life much (that I can tell), so I'll leave it at that.

I haven't noticed any dropped or broken calls. I would suggest doing a fresh install, and maybe check to make sure your speaker port is clean, especially if you have a case.

I just wanted to add that following directions is really important. Seriously RTFM and go with PhilZ recovery before doing anything else. Even after I got SuperSU straightened out, I was getting some wonkiness with Gapps like Calendar in the ROM and Gallery was crashing so I wiped again and flashed all of the ZIPs over again with PhilZ in place. Perfect now.

I asked because it is a sprint kernel I want to flash on my virgin mobile galaxy s3 !!
It on xda on the original android development site! !
ya we had problems with sprint kernels on 4.1.2 so we probably have problems 4.3 .

Kernels are just the "engine" for the ROM, they have nothing to do with the carrier or the services provided by the carrier, only when you flash a ROM originally intended for Sprint will you need the APN fix. The dkp kernel is being actively developed for stock 4.3 right now, can't hurt to try it, just make sure to make a backup before flashing (always a good idea to backup regardless when changing something major!), just be careful if you try to over clock since this phone doesn't really benefit from that aspect of a custom kernel.

I think I'm going to start a new thread where people can report custom kernels that work with MK5... and those that don't. I've often wanted to try different kernels but I'm so weary of this Knox bootloader that I'm afraid I might hard brick.

Probably a good idea. As far as I know, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but flashing kernels is generally less risky than flashing an untested ROM. However, who knows what Knox is really capable of, it might even start the zombie apocalypse ha ha ha!. From my experience dkp is hands down the best custom kernel for custom 4.3, and the developer is actively working on stock TW 4.3 right now. BMS gave me bootloops, even with minimal tweaking, leankernel didn't have enough options for my taste, and KT747 won't even flash. Again, my experience with these so far is just on custom 4.3 builds.

Just saw a screenshot on XDA of what the update message looks like when it shows up on the phone-looks really shady, because Samsung emphasizes 4.3 and Galaxy Gear with no mention of how they are also going to do some quasi-Big Brother things behind the scenes with Knox. If you browse the internet nobody is discussing or excited about Galaxy Gear, everyone and their brother is discussing Knox! Maybe a little better disclosure would have been nice. Still not an issue for me thankfully, just thought I would throw out a quick rant/observation!

Custom 4.3 builds... without the knox bootloader I presume

You wanna know why people don't talk about the Samsung Galaxy Gear? Hmmm??? Take a look at the price? it's just not worth it at all. I think of the watch like a low end phone. It's just way too high. Therefore the only leaves Knox issue for discussion.

Yeah true that. Plus the thing is ugly as sin and a lot of people who bought one promptly returned it. Don't get me wrong, as someone who grew up on original Star Trek the concept is a step in a very cool direction, but I'm not giving up my regular wristwatch anytime soon. The wording of the update just comes across to me as rather underhanded. How many people would have hit "accept" if Samsung had been more honest? A lie by omission is still a lie.

I agree with you on that 100%
Never NEVER would have hit the button had I know. I just did what do many others did. Bought the phone turned it on, software update.. Sure.... Then go to root... WTF......

Yeah, I have learned from past phones that checking out the relevant forums in advance of actually buying the phone can really save on a lot of problems, and help point me in the right direction. I wonder how many people are pissed that they got a great deal for Black Friday/Cyber Monday on this phone and had it shipped with either the update in place or ready to go so that they were kind of "tricked" into applying the update as part of the initial phone setup.

I am not sure what the ratio is of root users to non-root users but I imagine if you are a non-root user the update probably wouldn't make a difference.

Being the "geek" that I am, I am astonished at the people I talk to about their phones. I'll ask them something like "what android version is it running" and they tilt their head and say to me "I don't know, what do you mean? It's an S4" haha.. those are the only people I imagine couldn't care less about Knox :smokingsomb:
