Another 4.3 Question

So far I haven't seen anything about 4.3 that makes me want to update.
My VM 4.1.2 S3 doesn't allow me to use Link2SD to move apps to my external SD.

Can you do this with 4.3?

Yeah I'm able to move certain apps to my SD card. But I haven't found any benefits of updating so far...

tbh me neither but there are some added features, just look at this Android - Android 4.3, Jelly Bean

While i can take or leave most of the update, there are two features I appreciate so far: the ability to move apps to SD, and the group messaging ability. The latter has been absent on many of my VM phones, so it's nice to have at last.

"VM phone" = phone from Virgin Mobile USA in this case. I must be too used to posting in forums specific to that carrier; I'll remember to clarify from now on

My two cents and my standard reply is that rooting is (almost) always the answer. Check out the rooted subforum for Virgin if you want to get an additional perspective on things. Personally, I root my devices on day one and then truly make them my own, and the SGS3 has by far been more awesome than any device I have ever owned in this regard. Good luck!

P.S. My other two cents is to not touch anything related to Knox with a ten foot pole. If you don't know what I am talking about, then definitely come check out the rooted forum for VM before you do anything else. Also some good discussion going on at XDA with regards to Knox and the most recent update, but on any given forum you have to sift through a lot of misinformation and half-truths before you find the good stuff that was posted by people who aren't just repeating rumors.

I am rooted; however, when I attempt to move an app to the Ext. SD card I get the following message:

"App2SD is not supported by your device. Because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage.
You can link the app in order to move its files to you SD card"

Have no clue what that means??? I have tried other move to SD card apps and get the same message as the one above.

What method are you using? Pretty sure that Titanium Backup will work, I haven't needed it on this phone but it has worked fine for me in the past using Titanium.

App2sd wont work on a modern phone like the s3.
since youre rooted, look into the app "link2sd". I havent needed it but thats what i read people using to run apps from external sd :thumbup:

So does the 4.3 samsung update for the s3 promise native app2sd functionality?
I thought they were only doing that for the s4?

I'm using Link2SD, which gives me the "won't work" message. I also have Titanium Backup Pro installed but could not find where it allows me to move apps to the SD.

That was my initial post - does Link2SD work on 4.3 on a Galaxy S3? I assumed that the Galaxy S3 doesn't allow moving apps to SD but other posters have stated differently. I don't plan to update to 4.3 just to find out.

Yes, it does appear that the 4.3 update adds native app to sd support. That's pretty nice.

That is pretty damn cool. Wonder if that will be possible to port into the aosp-based roms or not..
Seems like samsung get away with doing things that google dont really agree with man like multiwindow.

I can understand now what all the fuss is about with s3 users craving the update :thumbup:

I was looking for something else over at XDA and saw this and thought maybe this would help? This swaps all app storage to the SD card so that you can have up to 64gb of app storage. I have no idea how good it works.

It's supposed to fix the group mms messaging too. I'd like that I have lots of friends with iphone's that do this and I can't reply correctly.

Lol luckily iphones are very passe where i live now. Too many samsungs though and everyone seems to keep that horrible whistle alert tone that i got sick of after a week and everyones homescreen looks the same
