Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

People in general can be shockingly rude and nasty, but when you're a customer service rep it's especially bad during the holidays (and the rest of the time, heh).

The other day I had to call up a customer who sent us a check without a driver's license number. Now, regardless of how you feel about having to put a DL # on a check, a) it is common practice for banks/businesses to require it on checks and b) it doesn't matter how you feel, if it's required then you either put it on there or don't get to pay with a check. Common sense stuff, right?

So, I called up this lady. Keep in mind that it was after 2 o'clock in the afternoon when I made this call, so well within reasonable and regular business hours. She gets on the phone and immediately starts yelling, "WHAT STORE IS THIS?!?! [note: when she answered the phone I said, "Hi, this is {my name} calling from {store I work for} in regards to the candy order you placed with us."] YOU WOKE ME UP FROM MY NAP! YOU WOKE ME UP! WHAT STORE IS THIS?!?" And she wasn't yelling as if she couldn't hear well (she sounded very elderly), she was yelling like she was cursing me out. For a little old lady, she sure did have a mouth like a Drill Sargent. Long story short, she went on to yell about the fact that she had never heard of a bank or business asking for a driver's license number on a check ("I'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??! I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! WHY WOULD A BANK NEED MY DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON A CHECK??? I'VE NEVER IN MY LIFE HEARD OF SUCH A THING!!!"). She yelled the entire time we spoke on the phone (well, I spoke and she spewed nastiness). At one point her husband even got on the phone, and although he wasn't yelling his voice was raised. He apparently had also never heard of a bank/business requesting a driver's license on a check. I finally asked them to hold and gave the call to an older male co-worker (helpful customer service rep tip: this usually calms older, unreasonably upset people down, since these are the types who usually think a man is always more helpful).

End all, the husband apologized profusely to my male co-worker (gee, thanks), saying "She's just cranky when she first wakes up." Firstly, this has to be the lousiest excuse for an apology I have ever heard. Secondly, I can guarantee you it's not true. Nice people are not "just" extremely mean only when they wake up after a nap. That's just not how people work. Unless you married a nasty person and stayed married to them (your bad)... then I guess when you might be in complete denial about how people work because you don't want to admit to yourself or others that you're living with a shitty human being... by choice.

It's crazy how some old people think they can be mean and nasty and say wherever they want just because they got old. Just think of all of the years they wasted being nice when they were younger. That's why I decided to be mean from a young age, so I wouldn't look back with regrets.:p

Hell yeah!!!

Screw'm, I'm tired of being nice.

My application storage is full of Google apps which can't be moved to the SD card or uninstalled. They push apps to the phone that I didn't ask for and they take up all my space so I can't install the apps I want.

I hate that, too. I have auto-update turned off and generally have a bunch of Google updates for stuff I never use sitting waiting, but then every once in a while, they force them through

You clearly haven't met my missus - you've heard the expression "let sleeping dogs lie"? Also applies to Spaniards ..

Always called BS, BS. I don't do what everyone else does just to feel "normal" and fit in. If that and being a cynic since Jr. High is grumpy, then I am.

Some of being nasty is the shift in behavior of people. Those idiots with snowflake kids thing that everything the kid does is all right and you are supposed to agree with it. WTH happened to the old premise that you don't touch or bother with things that don't belong to you? Why should your kid be allowed to dig up my flower bed just for the "experience"?

If those of us raised with manners get grumpy, too bad for those who don't.

Just because someone has a job to clean up doesn't negate your own responsibility. Pick up you tray and carry it to the trash, and thereby can come in and wash down the table. You didn't find trash all ouch deer it when you sat down.

Went do reasonable adults turn into irresponsible children at Disney?

When auto correct makes your rant sound funny
